I have been using the SG-800 for about 2 years now with the bundled VPM Virtuoso Print Manager with out a problem - have been using Inkowl refillables for the last year, since my warranty expired

I went to use it this week and Virtuoso had disappeared from my printer selection - I went to sawgrass and found that it had been replaced with SPM sawgrass print manager

I downloaded and installed, but it was crashing my adobe programs when I tried to print - on advice from Adobe, I uninstalled, downloaded again and installed

Now it prints a diagonal grid over everything that I output

the image that I attached is my test print and my print from Adobe

I have had virtually no problems with this printer until this upgrade - I downloaded legacy software to go back to business as usual to no avail - it asks for my password to sawgrass and then rejects it,

I reset it and it still rejects

any input or insight here? It seems kind of wrong to deny access to products and equipment that you pay for, because you choose to use another brand of ink

So I have a hard time accepting that answer as I think more highly of SG than that

Thanks for listening - oh and I made a delivery promise to a customer before I realized that things were going to go south on me :)

Here is the response from Sawgrass Support. I hope it helps.
Thank you for contacting Sawgrass Technical Support! I recommend for the customer to go back to using authentic Sawgrass inks. The only other alternative would be to print directly from their design software without using the Print Manager.

Simple, really. Your ink supplier should be able to supply you with an ICC profile which you install on your computer.

You then switch OFF the printer colour management in the printer driver driver and switch ON the colour management in your software (eg. In Photoshop, set to 'Let Photoshop manage colours' and select your ICC from the drop-down list).

I just joined this forum based on this thread (or whatever it's called, lol). I am frickn bent right now. I purchased an SG1000 last year and just upgraded to windows 10 for some video editing software. My printer wasn't printing, so I downloaded the new driver and installed it. I actually delivered a sub-par sublimation project because I had no choice but to print direct, and explained to the customer why in giving him the choice to take the work or not at no cost to him.

It won't let me revert to the old drivers or do anything except buy their ridiculously over-priced ink.

Anyway has anybody found a workaround from AI or PS?

I am going to be talking to an attorney -Epson, HP (i believe hp settled out of court), and Brother were all sued in class-action over this same type of behavior. It is illegal. If anybody knows a workaround please let me know, I'll keep trying and if I figure anything out, I'll post it here. Sorry to rant on my first post, but I'm super annoyed by this rip-off and what it has cost! Thanks

My printer is doing the same thing. I read online that it’s because I’m using a different ink. I regret ever purchasing this printer!! SG is a money hungry company! My small Epson printer is so much easier to use!!

Same… it’s always something… miserable horrible headache from all of this… I literally just wanted to print a few coffee mugs for family photos for the upcoming holiday. It’s “office space” printer justice for this broken brick of useless fodder. I’m sorry, there literally are not words to describe my absolute furry and discontent with the SG500, the ink, the support, the Sawgrass company as a whole, their ineptitude, and the lot. I literally regret this experience worse than my toxic ex and all of her narcissistic ways. I’d sooner cuddle with the devil than to ever purchase or continue to use their products, ink, software/web-ware ever again. The software is trash, the user interface of this printer is trash, their money gouging platitudes trash! I feel so strongly negative to this whole experience I am choosing to disassemble everything Sawgrass I own, with extreme prejudice, 4th of July style. I will record said event in 4k, capture stills from that video, and print an entire set of inks worth of images with whatever Epson printer is recommended I buy, and make an entire line of products with said images. In fact, I will consider changing my company logo to a gif of a Sawgrass printer ablaze in a trash can. For the first 100 items sold you two can own your very own real life piece of a SG500 printer, free piece of charred shrapnel with every mug. Clark Griswold meltdown complete, you may carry on.

I've found this thread because the same has happened to me after putting in a sublisplash black ink by mistake (I bloody ordered sawgrass but they sent me cheap stuff). So I flipped the image in photoshop and sent directly to the printer, but it refuses to print in black, and will only use my colour cartridges (which are SG brand, the black is not) so instead of a nice clean black print it's coming out like a dirty blue. When I change the mode in photoshop to greyscale it prints nothing. It sounds like it's printing but because it refuses to use the black it's coming out blank. Absolute wankers.

Here is a solution that worked for me: Go to System and Settings > Printers & Scanners > SAWGRASS SG400 RPCS-R (SG800, if that's your model). Select Manage > Printer Properties > Select 'Port' Tab at the top of the pop-up. Ensure that the port (left hand column) for SAWGRASS SG400 RPCS-R is checked (it should be already, mine was defined as USB001.) Check 'Enable printer pooling'. Find SG_Local and select. Apply settings. I did a restart before my test print. NO MORE WATERMARK!!!!

I am printing directly from my Adobe Illustrator 2024. I simply mirror the design (Transform->Reflect) and send it to the Sawgrass. No lines. I have had no issues with their software up until today. Printed with the gridlines though for the first time. Kind of a pain to have to add this extra step, but I have too much non-Sawgrass inks I'm using, and I'm not losing all of that money.

Thank you for the tips everyone! I was able to print using Illustrator...didn't even realize this was an option. I'm really confused in my case though because I have Sawgrass ink in my SG500 printer and recently had to update to the Sawgrass print manager from the PrintMate. My prints have had the cross hatch ever since. Anyone have this happen with Sawgrass ink? I have a work-around, thanks to this thread, but I was just curious. I've had a ton of issues with this printer since I got it, so I assume this is just one more. We have one in our school system and it's never had a problem. I am deeply regretting buying this printer. :(

hello everyone as we are all having the same issue I have a 500 and of course same thing my only thing is I want to try the work around but it is not the same on my iMac. the options are a little different so I a having trouble getting to where the port info is. I do not have the manage option in settings. Has anyone done this on a apple???

This is outrageous... Me To... My SG 500 is also doing the same..

Its ok for them to state use a different software programme, which is easy to do, but that is not the point.

If I recall HP tried this and the backed down very quickly & even lowered the price of their Ink.

The best way to get back @ Sawgrass is to target the retailers that sell this (Wonderful Product), as they have no way to leave reviews directly.

Just leave a bad review with Pictures , showing the disregard from Sawgrass...

One thing I can promise once they lose sales in printers & see the bad reviews on retailers Websites - They will have a rethink...

As always its Power to the People that always wins... No product Sales = No business...

Its time to take action & target the retailers that sell the product, post on Socials & have fun with ripping SG apart - Trust me they know the issues, but still carry on ripping us off...

GO GET'em...

I just started having this same exact issue. I have tried printing outside of print manager however the quality of the image is less than desired and the color is different than what is printed from print manager. For reference I have a Mac. I literally bought this SG500 less than 6 months ago. They want you to spend $300 to buy their ink refills when the printer itself costs $500. For a small business this is so detrimental. I sell personalized pet portraits and now my printer is useless. If anyone figures out how to fix this please share!

Ann, I had this issue as well but I don't use my printer a lot...at some point, it fixed itself. I used the work around where I printed directly from Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator but then unplugged it for a few weeks because I wasn't using it. When I printed again, it had fixed itself. I know this isn't much help but if you can print from a different program, I would try that.

Good morning everyone. I got a used SG500 for Christmas, made a print and the colors were very vibrant and dark. Then I changed out the old ink for new Amazon ink and encountered this problem myself, and followed all the tips here. Git GiMP installed, recreated my print, and the only problem I'm having now is ink density on the paper. When I made my print from Gimp, the printer went much faster than through the Sawgrass app, and the resulting print was lighter than it should be. Is there a way to make the printer deposit more ink to the paper? I did change the setting from "Speed priority" to "High quality" and made a second copy of the print. This one seems a bit darker than the first, but it still seems lighter than it should. I'll go out today and get some scrap 100% polyester fabric for test printing.
