My Epson printing only a part of the graphic?

This is getting very annoying... My R1800 recently started printing only a part of the graphic I'm trying to print on my film positives.

It prints only a 5" area on the left side of the film sheet and leaves the rest of the film totally blank. This used to appear only occasionally, but today I've managed to print successfully only one sheet and failed about 20 times.

I've tried printing from Photoshop, Acrobat, restarted the printer, restarted my computer, all the wires are plugged in... I just can't think of anything else to try!

I haven't made any changes in my printer settings, hardware or anything else for that matter. I can't think of a reason why this is happening. The crappy thing is - I'm unable to work!

Anyone else encounter this issue? I tried doing a quick search on the topics but didn't find my answer. What to do???

I feel your pain my friend.

when you say "left side" do you mean that it won't print across the page, or that it prints only on the left side from top to bottom. I get confused when printing in landscape or portrait mode.

Can you change your ink cartridge?

I don't know if changing your paper settings will help.

Are you using a rip program?

Just grasping for straws.
Good luck

Thanks guys! No I'm not using a rip program.

By "left side" I mean it prints on one long side of the sheet only. So basically I have 2/3 of the sheet left completely blank. Margins or orientation have not been changed as far as I know. It's just simply 13x18" and a portrait sheet. I have triple checked every setting each time I print and everything should be good.

Also note, that I've been putting out films for a year and a half now and this problem started occurring only recently.

I have changed the ink cartridge, but this problem insisted on staying.

A damaged PPD is something I haven't thought of. This could be a possibility... Is it possible to just grab a fresh PPD and replace it with the old one? I mean, is it necessary to re-install the whole printer?

Thanks again for all your help!

I'm a Mac guy myself and sometimes I get the wording mixed around, drivers would be more like it. My point was simply if the printer just stopped working and nothing has changed, page orientation, sizes, etc, then something could be possibly corrupt. If the printer gets deleted, then re-added, not install & uninstall, it could fix the problem.

Alrighty, thought I'd give you an update on what's going on.

I uninstalled the printer, re-installed and gave it a shot...

But would you have known it? The problem was still there, to my great annoyance.

But! This time I decided to try something different. I loaded some paper sheets (Plain Paper) the same size as my film and the darn printer worked like a charm!

Then I tried my transparencies again and failed miserably.

So I started thinking. Plain Paper works, transparencies don't... I figured there must be some sensor inside that can see through my film (?) and gets the whole printer confused. My decision was to tape up the first 1/3" of the transparent sheet (the front-end) with simple opaque tape. My hope was that maybe this sensor (?) can now understand that it's OK to start printing.

And it's all good, babyyy... Now I print my transparencies no problem. So I didn't really figure out the reason or a real solution but this work-around seems to get the job done.

Somebody smarter than me can probably tell us why this is, but I think from now on I'll be using this trick of mine just to play it safe.

I'm sure if I was using RIP software I wouldn't be having this problem in the first place but... What can I say?

So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. But I still have no idea what's going on :)

My R1800 did this a while back.
Granted, I do run a rip (Accurip) .
And, like you, it was driving me nuts...................
I figured out that there was a job that I had cancelled earlier, but, it didn't get completely removed and it was screwing everything up.
I finally found it in the printer's job list, and let it run/print that job.
That did the trick. It cleared it out of the system.
All good.
There was one other time that I had this problem and it was that the size was listed as two different sizes, so the printer was confused.
Ahhh, love/hate, no middle ground with computers.
