Is it possible to get cheaper than Gildan in Bangladesh etc? I'm having trouble!

Hi Guys,

I'm using Gildan 64000 shirts, but would like them with custom tags, Gildan want an order of 250,000 to do this.

I've been in touch with a few different factories in Bangladesh and Indonesia about making basically the same shirt but with our tags.

I'm planning an order of at least 25,000 shirts (a container load) and then more orders as needed but I'm having trouble getting a price to even match what I am currently paying from Gildan.

Seeing as I get my Gildan shirts via a distributor (not possible to buy direct in this part of the world) so there are several markups along the way, I was assuming there would be a decent saving to be made by going direct to a manufacturer. I got some good contacts of companies that mass produce shirts for retailers but as I say they are quoting me higher prices than Gildan, and this is before even factoring in shipping, duty etc.

Has anyone any advice on this? I know Gildan have massive buying power but I would have assumed that going factory direct to Bangladesh etc would always be the cheaper option. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Hi friend,

Sounds very curious to me, if you order 25,000pcs from direct factories, i believe in a better price can be offered than you get from any wholesale brand. Were you going to provide same quality standard to the factories to quote and compare with the gildan quality? or just the factories ripped you off. My thoughts will be to find more factories and ask for the quote again, the order quantity of you can be guaranteed a good price can be offered. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm getting in touch with a few other manufacturers in Bangladesh also to compare.

I know the cotton price has more than doubled in the last few months and Gildan have put their prices up lots, its also possible they bulk bought yarn at a lower rate and so are able to offer a more competitive rate.

I asked the manufactuer what effect a fall in cotton prices from $2 back to $1 a pound would have saying I thought a large ammount of the cost of the tee was the cotton.

They said:

Regarding costing & consumption - it is about 50% - 60% of the total price - depending on the styles. The rest is Dyeing/Finishing, Manufacturing & other accessories.

The T-shirt prices depend on the yarns that we buy from the Spinning mills. If the cotton price drops and if the Spinning mills readjust the yarn prices then the T-shirt prices will be less by 30% - 35%.

Does this sound right?

Thanks for all the advice!

The other thing to consider is that in a world standard gildan quality is very average, to be polite. The tees we get from Bangladesh are fine gauge, beautiful soft combed cotton and print on nicer than gildan. It's not just price to consider, but quality. Overall 25000 is still a very tiny order to indent, especially if there are many sizes or colours.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Am selling the shirts at very low prices so need a very cheap shirt.

The Gildans, while they do have quite a few duds are in general great quality for the price, especially in that they are ringspun.

Am not US based so Alstyle, Delta or Zorrel are not options either.

With the difficulties of ordering from manufacturers directly I'd want a decent saving to be made, at the moment it does not look like this is possible.

What I'm wondering is if Gildan really are the cheapest how come everybody selling very cheap shirts does not use them?

Thanks again for all the help.

What Indonesian companies you have been contact? and what's your target price, I think 25K tagless is big enough here, the problem for us why not produce own, Our Indonesia costumers are BANDED mind, if not Gildan/Hanes they do not want buy.
So far we still looking and interest become Distributor for both brand here, with reasonable price.
If you have any info about that let us know,
and we can help you find manufacturer here for your tagless t shirts

Hi guys,

I am using Gildan 5000 Adult T-Shirt and I want to find a garment factory in Bangladesh to make basically the same one but with our tags. I would like to use combed cotton ring-spun yarn.
I am planning to order at least 20.000 each time, and our warehouse is located in the US, but there's no problem to build a factory in Bangladesh if needed.
So could you kindly send me additional information about your services, such as your production capabilities, price, minimum order quantities, lead times, and any other pertinent information?
