Epson 1400 with CIS settings

Hey all,

Hopefully I'll get some help here! Well I'm ready to begin printing on my Epson 1400 or I thought I was. I bought the 1400 on ebay with the CIS with pigment ink and now I have a design and have some questions.

1. Do I need to design in CMYK and print that way also?
2. What are the best color settings to use?
3. What the heck is the ICC profile that I have seen on the forum?
4. If I need an ICC profile, how do I do that?
5. What about saturation?
6. What paper source do I choose?

Just when I feel I'm beginning to make some progress in learning the graphics program, I find myself with a million more questions!

I hope one day, I will feel competent again :D

Which CIS are you using? I use the inkjetfly system and didn't have to mess with the ICC profiles or anything like that, so I can't give you advice on color settings. You don't need to design in CMYK, think of it as a normal printer - if it's set up properly it'll print what's on the screen regardless of the color mode. Use whatever paper source you need to print on - if you're doing 8.5x11, use US Legal. If you're doing 11x17, select that, etc.

Thanks Aaron for such a speedy response! I thought about PM'ing you at first since you have helped me before.

I'm not sure which inks they are, I purchased the printer with the system from ebay from AAAdeals or something like that. I saw another forum member had purchased from them also. I just emailed them to find out about the inks and ICC profile.

I'm hoping when I go to print, I'll be good to go. I'll be trying it tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Libby, the 1400 uses Epson's Claria dye-base inks. Claria colors are brighter but pigment colors are longer lasting for heat transfers. It is not a natural pigment ink printer, so if it came with pigment inks you would need an icc profile to truly replicate the Claria colors. To install the icc profiles, you first have to delete the color profiles that came with the printer then install the icc profiles. If you don't like the pigment ink colors, you can always re-install the default color profiles with the cd that came with your printer. Hope this helps.

Well the seller replied that they don't have the ICC profile for the CIS inks that were delivered with the printer so now I don't know if I should install this system or not. I have contacted him again to request what inks these are to see where I should go from here. The printer only came with the CIS system inks and no OEM Claris inks.

It's always something...just when I think I'm getting somewhere I'm right back to square one. AARGHH!

Thanks for the reply, I'll see what the seller says again. I haven't left feedback yet for this seller and he wants to protect his eBay feedback and not receive negatives so hopefully I will get the answers I need.
