i'm making catalog numbers for my shirts/buckles/hats/etc....

well i have an 8 number system
11001010

collection/gender/fabric/style/color/color/graphic/graphic

is there a better way to do numbers....like should i cut out any of the sections (i.e. color) since my other list will have which shirt gets which graphic?

last thing i want to do is have to rethink this numbering system in a year and have to redo everything..

thanks

Hello 237am

Congratulations on creating a number system for your apparel
Most people don't realize how important this is and how much time you will save
also this makes your line more appealing to retailers (Think ease of reorder)

The one thing to rember when creating catalog numbers is keep it very simple.
You should be looking at a 4 to 5 digit system.
Think more like the GS1 / UPC code numbering system.

Style/fabric/color/Graphic 4 digit

Collection/fabric/style/color/graphic. 5 digit

I hope this helps

would it be wise to include a letter in there also?.... i already have 15 graphics in print and have about 8 more that i'm working on...... same with colors..... not sure if i should just stick to a max of 9 shirt colors/styles/etc....

since i might use the same graphic on a girls and guys shirt but the image is smaller for the girls, should i renumber that a different number ....

i might only have 2-3 shirt color options also.......

i think i got it down to 6 digits....

collection/gender/fabric/style/graphic/graphic

on my order sheet you would select your size s/m/etc
also on the order sheet is the color of the shirt.... color i took out of the catalog number....not sure if thats a good idea

only thing is trying to keep track of the brand that i use for the shirts....gildan/bella/etc..... i had it as a number in the catalog.....

reason for the collection is i have a 'scheme' for each set...plus this will help me call out graphics better....

not sure if the 8 system was an overkill though.......

any suggestions would help....

hows does everyone else keep track of shirt brands per design?
