I'm looking for the best 16 x 20 or 16 x 24 portrait style heat press. It can be used or brand-new, my budget is $500. I know I will get a lot of people saying save up your money and buy top of the line heat press but I am just starting out and testing out the waters. So. What are you guises suggestions?

Ahh, the evil shipping will ruin the budget for you. When I was shopping around I did the exact same thing as you, a $500 budget, just couldn't find a reliable heat press backed with a warranty and customer service to stay in budget.

But if you're really firm on your budget, I recommend checking Craiglist. Look into investing a K-Type Pryometer . Geo Knight sell an affordable put together Taiwan brand. Use the pyrometer to check for any cold spots. Get a hold of some sample plastisol transfers and test away. I almost bought a used dk20s, but the condition it was horrible.
