A merrow machine (basically a single needle overlocker).

It is a Merrow Machine. If you are doing a 2 sided then you will have to sew 2 patches and put them together.

For light use, a cheap overlocker can do it as well.

For very thick materials or heavy use, an industrial overlocker is needed.
Using regular thread is not the best option obviously. There are special threads for this.
