Piece of glass used for burning the screen?

I'm going to try exposing my first screen and was using the cheap method of a 500watt work light hovering 12 inches above my screen. I've been reading about using glass to place over my transparent image but I'm not sure how I go about purchasing it?

I've heard it has to be 1/4", non-UV, tempered glass correct? I've tried stores like home depot but they only carry 1/8" and I'm not even sure if its non-uv and tempered.

Also, does the glass just need to be big enough to cover my image?

Thank you guys!

You can epoxy glue a masons trowel to he glass so you have a handle to pick it up. Use 3/8 - 1/4 inch glass and tempered if possible so if it breaks, you don't get scarred. I would also get a black tee and put it smooth and flat between the glass and screen to keep light fraction down. Low watt light sources with long burn times can " creep " around opaque areas and choke your design if it reflects off the glass. I used to put about 10 pounds ( dumbbell ) on the glass to make sure I had no ghosting also.

I just use normal glass. Make sure it doesn't have and archival coating or uv coating. Some frame shops put that in their frames. Just be careful with your glass. If you bust it just be careful cleaning it up. Store it someplace out of the way. Youre an adult you can handle a piece of glass lol. :)
