I was looking for some advice regarding refillable ink cartridges for our Epson Pro 4900.

We only use this printer for printing transparency films and are currently buying the 11 cartridges of BlackMax Ink from ryonet for $1,000. Can anyone recommend an alternative set of refillable cartridges and bulk black ink to help reduce our costs?

I was considering this set of cartridges for $295: Epson 4900 Refillable Cartridges (Set of 11) - Art / Graphics Dept - Screen Printing
Would these cartridges be compatible with the BlackMax Ink? sold here by ryonet for $129per liter? Blackmax Dye Ink - Liter | ScreenPrinting.com by Ryonet
or could somebody suggest an alternate ALL BLACK INK system for the epson 4900?

I really appreciate any input regarding this.

Thanks,
Steve

Our 4800 just gave up the ghost and we used inkowl.com carts and the BlackMaxx bulk ink from Ryonet. Work great for 2 years but the print head recently went belly up.

Just picked up a used 4880 and received new carts from inkowl yesterday. They have them for the 4900 as well https://www.inkowl.com/index.php?p=product&q=4900&product=6020

The chip resetter is sold separately.

Thanks for all of the information guys!

We went ahead with wrkalot recommendations with the inkowl refillable cartridges & chip resetter, and got (2) one liter black max ink. We just swapped out the first cartridge (#4) with a refilled inkowl cartridge and everything went very smoothly so far. We are shooting the films now and will keep an eye on the order throughout production so see if any issues arise. Are there any potential issues we should be aware of as we continue to experiment with this? All advise is greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, we have our first epson stylus pro 4900 printer collecting dust. It had an error code awhile back and we attempted to have it serviced once with little/no luck. Would anyone be interested in this printer? We also have 2 full sets (11 cartridges) of the unused 80ml color cartridges. If so, feel free to make an offer.

Thanks again,
Steve

I just got a nice 4900, basically fell in my hands and was looking to do what you did, how did it work out? did it last?

Hello, I just purchased a 4900 and was hoping to pick your brains a bit please.
I would like to try your method of one black cartridge and the rest filled with cleaning fluid.

Can you please tell me if the cleaning fluid cartridges still print when only printing with a single black cartridge? If they still print when doing film does that do anything to the black on the film or do I need to do something in simple seps when printing the film positives to stop cleaning fluid coming through?

If you can think of anything else that may be useful to tell me that will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
