Default New to printing - Print, Flash, Print One color Printing

Hey Everyone! I am new to screen printing and need a bit of help.

To start out I bought a cheap press until I can justify buying a larger more expensive one. Attached an image.

However, I am having a problem with what seems to be something very simple. I am using water based ink and doing a one color print, flash, print. But, it's not registering back to the original spot.

Would anyone know what problem I might be having?

Many situations can cause this
Press won’t hold registration (loose parts, gate, slop in arms, etc
Stencil drag from loose mesh
Garment shrinking under flash
Have you confirmed these items?

Thanks so much for the reply.

the loose parts, should not be an issue. I have checked several times.

Stencil Drag, not really sure what it is.

Shrinking maybe an issue. I am trying to play with it and see.

Any suggestions? for these two issues?

Again thanks,

Are you using any adhesive to make sure the shirt doesn't move around on the platen?

Yes, I bought some from Ryonet. Seems to do it's job.

Exactly how is it out of register? Side-to-side or front-to-back?

If side to side, verify that the gate prevents side-to-side movement when the head is down. Put a screen in the head, lower it into the gate, and see if you can make it move side-to-side. Adjust the gates tighter if needed.

If front-to-back, check that the off-contact stud (or whatever it has) is making contact with the arm when it is fully lowered. Also check any angle adjustment bolt/knob (if it has one ... doesn't look like it does), to make sure it isn't slipping a bit in use. Else, it might be that your screen mesh is too loose and thus distorts when you make a squeegee pass (stencil drag); this happens more easily if the design has large areas of open mesh.

Yeah, for opaque printing you want a screen with tight mesh. Most store-bought screens will work fine. If your screen mesh is nice and tight, several things can cause your shirt to shift between prints. 1: Your screen might not be tight in the clamps. 2: Your gate may not be holding it tightly (A few pieces of masking tape on the press arm guide works wonders for this...) 3: Your pallet may not be tight on the pallet arm (Even if it seems tight, if it's a bit loose and you if you hit it a bit accidentally with your hand or the stand on your flash cure unit you could make it budge a bit.) 4: Your shirt is not firmly adhered to the pallet. 5: The bearing on your turntable is loose. Check all of these and carefully try another print. If nothing is moving it should be dead on.
