Silverfish, you might want to check the date of the post you are replying to... the post you are quoting was from over 3 years ago, I would hope they sold it a long time ago...

Hence "If you still have this available." I saw the date. Can't hurt to ask. Never know. I've had equipment sit around for years at a time. thanks

So this thread was started in 2012, and it's now nearing the end of 2016.
With a good four years in between, is the BN-20 still a great deal at the current $8500 price, or has something better come along to replace it?

You're best bet would to purchase a versacamm, the main reason I say this is because the price is well withing your budget, you get more bang for your buck. Over time you will spend more money on material with a BN 20 than a larger versacamm and the BN 20 is so slow, lol. I have a versacamm SP-300i, so I'm speaking from experience

You cannot go wrong with this machine, if you know how to manage the jobs properly then this is the best machine you can get.

Getting a printer and cutter separately is just a headache, we collect jobs in the day time and run the machine overnight and keep the jobs next day.

It does but it prints as well. It is just really slow.

The BN20 is not the same as a plotter or cutter.
I use a Roland GS24 and the Roland BN20.

The GS24 just cuts the vinyl and the BN20 prints with ink and then cuts the outlines.

I like both machines and use them a lot.

I will say that the BN20 took me a long time to learn, as I had no machine or print experience.
Also, it’s like having a baby, in that it has to me kept in a temperature controlled room that is clean. You have to keep it running, you can’t turn it off and go on vacation.

Good luck.

Very old thread, but the fact that in the eight years since it was released the BN20 hasn't been upgraded, superceded or inspired any of Rolands competitors to launch a rival machine says everything.

Niche machine for a niche market. Outside of that niche most pro shops will soon outgrow it.
