Default pricing a trailer job question w/pictures

Hoping someone can let me know if I was on the right track on this job. Trailer had screws so I was able to take them out where the graphic was. I charged 620.00 for this job and used Oracal 751 for both colors. That includes about 5 hours app time. I'm including 3 pics. nose, rear and one representing both sides of the trailer.

Thank you in advance!

trailer is 16'. Around 640 square feet if I figured it right. I went through 24"x 10 yard roll of black and about 3/4 roll of green. Material costs were around 100.00.

(and my math was WAYYYYY off here which created confusion) sorry folks....

Here in Maryland I charge $10 a sft. installed of vinyl so about $7 for the vinyl and $3 a sft. of install.
that doesn't include design or setup fee.

So if I have 640 sq. ft. of vinyl then 10.00 per sq. ft. would be 6400.00?

I would have been a little more that double that in Southern California. We like to have a profit of around $250/hr over raw materials. That covers our fixed costs and time.

Binki. You mean you would have charged 12,000.00 for a job that only took 5 hours? You've got to be kidding me. I thought I was a little underpriced but ....just wow.

12,000? Surely you mean 1,200?

(5 x 250) + 100 for materials = 1 350.

You earn't $520 for a days work. Unless you turned away lots of other work to do it, or you have massive overheads of staff and premises, you have done alright.
You'd like one a day, right?

Although there was a lot of vinyl used it was a relatively easy job - mainly text - so not a lot of design time or creative input. With practice that 5 hour install will drop to 2-3 hours.

You used 17.5yds of 24" vinyl - so 105 sq foot. At $10 per foot that is $1050, so you aren't massively out.

Your maths on the size is out. Assuming the trailer is 8ft high and 8ft wide you have two sides at 128sq/ft (256) and a front and back each at 8x8 (64 sq/ft x 2 =128sq/ft) The total of the trailer is 384sq/ft.

On budget vinyl I charge upto 10x vinyl cost for simple text/logo cut and fit. I drop that a bit on premium vinyl to keep competitive, so with Oracal I would be at about 8x vinyl cost.

I charge more for complex designs with lots of colours/layering/small text.

Couldn't you have pointed out to the customer that the apostrophe shouldn't be there?

I wish. You have too many zeros. $1400 would be about where I would be. It would be more if I had to travel to it more than 30 minutes.

lol......ok I got it now. I messed up when Binki wanted to know how many square feet for the graphic. I figured in sq. inches and then divided by 12......DOH.
It is a 8' x 16' trailer. so it would be 128' sq. ft. on one side and 256 for both sides. Front end and rear were probably 6' wide by 8' so add another 48' + 48' for 96 sq. ft. Grand total of trailer area would be around 352 sq. ft.. My graphic is about 26 sq. ft. PER SIDE for a total of 104 sq. ft. So in effect I charged around 6.00 per sq. ft. PatWibble said it correctly...I earned 520 for a days work and for the area I am in, that ain't bad for a side business. DrivingZiggy: You are correct. He named it after his wife Patti and his last name starts with O......so, Patio's! Or at least that is what he explained to me when I asked him about the apostrophe.... Thank you folks for stepping up and answering!

You know, sometimes it hurts me to be so damned anal about things. There's a local eatery named "Kajan's." When I first saw it--and being Cajun--I took umbrage. WTF??? But then one day I decided to try it. That's when I found out that the owner's name was "Jan" and they do, indeed, have Cajun food.

I just need to get over myself.

Edit: I thought I was being clever when I named my trucking company. I mixed "transportation" with "Ziggy" and got "tranZig." *sigh* I had no idea that so many people just could not grasp that the "t" is lower case and that there is no "s" (TransZig) in the middle. In fact, the entire name of the company was tranZig enterprises, incorporated. And NOBODY could grasp that the only capitalized letter is the "Z." Oh, well. The company no longer exists so I don't have that problem any more.
