Your thoughts & recommendations on wholesale distributors

I am looking for a wholesale distributor for baby onesies, rompers, and toddler blanks for HTV t shirts. When I google for wholesale distributors I get alot of results back claiming to be wholesalers but never ask for any documentation and it is clear they sell to the general public. Am I missing something or does it not matter on price etc? I thought true wholesale distributors verified that you have appropriate documents and prices were better to buy in bulk but I have only run across ONE that wants the documentation and the rest were just a registration of the basic info like any website that the general public could access too? Who do you guys use? Does this bother anyone else or do you just go to all of them and check price versus quality and don't care if they sell to general public as well. Does it even matter?
