Xfer CS4 AI file to Corel Draw 12 - eeks!

I am using CS4 Adobe Illustrator (on MacBook Pro) to create my Tshirt design. My screener is on a Windows machine with Corel Draw 12. with CS4 AI, I save my files as an Illustrator 8 version, in ".ai," "PDF" and "JPEG" files. My screener says that he can view the JPEG files, but the PDF files blow up his system and claims that I am the only designer that transfers files to him that cause such havic! Oh forgot to mention, that before saving the files, I do convert all the texts to curves. Any suggestions?!??!? So frustrated!

Can you try saving it as an EPS file instead? Those seem to work better

thanks, after about a dozen different combinations of saving (PDFs of different Illustrator versions) - I did finally try EPS and had to save in Illustrator 8 version. My screener was able to finally pull it up on his system without a crash! Yea!

You'll find that .eps files are easily opened by almost, if not all, vector programs out there both paid and free. If in doubt just do an .eps file :)
I did save the EPS in Illustrator 8 version. I wonder if that was necessary? Does anyone know. AFter four days and sending my screener about 12 different types of files, I was just glad that something worked.

I'm curious if saving to the Illustrator 8 version is necessary, too, or how far up you can go. I am a screenprinter who often gets .eps (or .pdf) files generated by designers using AI, and some import into my Corel X3 just great and others will not come in; a warning box says the file is corrupted. I never know what to tell the AI users to do in their save/export process, and have on several occasions been reduced to taking a JPEG and recreating it from scratch. I'll suggest going back to 8, but if anyone knows if they can save to a later version, I'd also appreciate the information.
I know that saving the EPS as an Illustrator 8 version works. I know that my screenprinter was getting annoyed about all the different files I was sending him. Many of the files crashed his application and/or system. So, didn't have the guts to ask him to do more experimenting with me. I just rec'd the shirts that I had him print up of my last two designs and they have all the details. So I am happy. I have saved all my notes on how to save my AI design files so that I won't have to go through this anymore. In the meanwhile, I'm hoping that he will convert over to a MacBook and AI. (I know that's pretty biased, but I used to be on a Windows machine with Corel. No going back for me!)

sorry to see you downgraded :D

But easiest way, for me;
select all items in design and convert to curves/paths
save as eps (version shouldn't matter)
send to printer.

Should not need to save as AI8 version.
As long as you convert to curves/paths before saving it should be fine.

the only thing I noticed when I did it, was the way the color was displayed on screen.

as the color management is different between the versions and programs, you will see some differences.

In the image, I have selected the green (pantone 368C) to show the differences.
on my monitor, when compared to the actual pantone formula guide - X5 is closest. AI too light, X3 too dark
