So I'm a long time tjet operator that just recently bought a New brother gt-541. I bought it from a private seller that never got it up and running - never even installed the heads. When I bought it it came with a set of CMYK carts that expired 9/2010. I purchased new CMYK carts, as I did not want to harm the heads using expired ink.

But now I am considering using the expired inks because they are so dang expensive and the brother goes through it so fast ! My tjet uses 250ml of black ink in 1 month for $63. The brother costs me over 3 times that for less ink in 3 weeks and I am only printing white shirts with it!

So I have read that expired inks can change in color, but I am wondering if it can really mess up your head. What do you think? know? I hate looking at $832 sitting on my shelf, going to waste.

I've used expired CMYK inks in both my 541 and 782 machine. No noticeable difference in the CMYK, expired white ink is usable but a pain in the ***!(once the titanium dioxide becomes unsuspended from the water, it cannot be resuspended) I'd say you're good to go, save your money!!!

hope this helps!

Oh! I have a question,

Why would expired inks damage a head? Just curious as I have (fortunately!!) not experienced any issues with my heads (they were replaced before I took the position) Do you think the ink constancy would change causing the heads to clog?

I'm just taking every precaution since the Brother heads are so expensive. You know how regular inkjet printers' warranties are void if you use any other brand ink. Not have a warantee on this machine.

Elisiha, have you ever used ink that is this old before?
