ok everyone i need some help so i dont mess this up. i got my heating element in the mail today but i have no idea how to wire it. i got a wiring diagram with it but it is missing one thing, what to do with the ground wire? hear is what i have, it is the wiring diagram that came with it, and a pic of the element itself. if anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance to whom ever chimes in on this. i dont want to break this before i even get to use it. it turns out that this element is for a flash dryer, does everyone think it will work for this DIY conveyor dryer??

It will work, all the BBC conveyor dryers have the IR panels in them and many others also. The ground wire needs to be attached to metal on your housing for the heat panel incase it were to short it would blow the breaker otherwise it would shock anyone that came in contact. ** don't use wood to mount this panel or incase it. You can either wire in a thermostat best option or make your heat panel height adjustable and some type of belt speed control.

thanks guys. i am gonna get this thing done to night. i plan to somehow make it height adjustable. i wish that i could wire in a thermostat but wouldnt know where to begin with that. what kind of therm would you use for that ? where would placement be on something like that? thanks again guys i will try it and see what happens. the only problem i see is that i dont have any metal on the frame. i used alum for the side rails, wood for base, that is as far as i have gotten so far. might have to figure out a way to incorporate some metal just for the ground wire. hmmm...

The white wire goes direct to one end and the black wire passes by the switch to then the other end. There is a pilot light (ON) but mo thermostat?
the diagram says 240 volts for the case NOT for the wiring. Is this a 240 or a 120 element. they use different wiring .
If its a 240 unit the diagram is wrong.

The NFPA sets the standards for fire protection in wiring devices. your ground protects you from getting killed if something malfunction . Either way metal cabinet and ground that cabinet to protect your self and other.

It would kind of suck if you had wet feet and touched your dryer and got shocked.
You don't want to become the return path to ground, make sure and put one in . If you don't understand electric make sure you find someone who does. You life will depend on it .
