wires to upper platen/heating element

One of my wires that heat up the upper platen/heating element has broken. The original wire is wrapped in some type of cloth. Can I use wire from Home Depot or Lowes to repair?? I have some heavy gauge wire but its wrapped in plastic/rubber material. I don't want to set anything on fire.

If you're going to replace the whole wire, you need glass wrapped wire (you can search online and find it). If you are splicing away from the heating element you can use regular machine wire (machine wire is stranded - not solid like house wire).

Thanks!!! Do you mean fiberglass wrapped wire??
yes. The glass insulation on wiring is fiberglass.
Thanks forgot to post update but after finding I needed fiberglass insulated wire I ordered some off of amazon as well as high tempature terminals and repaired my press. Cant believe its been two weeks. A real simple fix and now my press heats up to tempature fast!!
