Winter is coming. Should I sell hoodies, long-sleeve t-shirts or just t-shirts?

I've a limited amount of funds to buy my 1st batch of screen printed apparel to sell.

Originally I was thinking of selling t-shirts but then, winter is coming, so maybe that's a bad decision?

I'm also looking at hoodies, but the problem is that the hoodies have sewn-in labels and the printer I'm using doesn't remove the labels (they don't provide such services).
The label removal is important to me as I'm putting in a lot of branding into these and I can't have a "American Apparel" label at the back of the hoodie.

As an alternative to hoodies, I'm looking at long-sleeve t-shirts with tearaway labels.

What's everyone's views on this? I assume during winter, t-shirt sales drop significantly while hoodies' sales rise.

If your funds are limited, stay away from the hoodies for now, as the blanks cost much more. Better to figure out first which of your designs sell well enough to warrant a more expensive blank and the risk that it may never sell.

People buy T-shirts, even tank tops, year round.

There are hoodies with tear out labels. I just sampled some Independent Trading Company hoodies with them. Can get from from S&S Activewear. Hell, even the most recent Gildan 18600 I got had tear out labels ... but might depend on how new the stock is, as I think this is a recent change for them.

When I used American Apparel I advertised the fact, as it was one of the few blanks names with consumer recognition.

Next Level, Bella+Canvas, Gildan, Independent Trading Co., and AlStyle all have hoodies and crewnecks of varying weights and price points with tear-away labels.

But I agree with NoXid- if you're just starting out, keep it simple. Depending where you are located, you should be able to sell tees and longsleeve tees and flip that for your next round of designs. Then take one of the more popular designs and put it on a quality hoodie or crewneck and take it from there.
Hey just read this the Gildan 18600 is a zipper hoodie right? because I have yet to find a regular gildan hoodie with tearaway labels if you know of any please let me know :)
I Can tell you 80% of my T-shirts are sold in November and December.

I'm in the UK so not sure if its different in the states.

We are a giftware company so Black Friday, Cyber Monday are when our peak sales happen.

I used to do Sweatshirts and Hoodies but don't bother anymore as the profits aren't that much better then Tees but if it got quiet I would go back to them. I know lots do well with Hoodies and Sweats still.

(back to this post after being soooo rudely interrupted by the power going off last night)

Actually, it was an 18500 (pullover) I got from S&S that had tear-out tags, not an 18600--my mistake. I have not ordered an 18600 from them. All the 18600s I have gotten, so far, from my local supplier (Thinc Actionwear) have had the regular sewn-in Gildan tag.

I suspect it is a fairly recent change and that the older tagged garments are still working their way through the system, so YMMV.

Gildan has another pullover (92500) with tear-out tags. It is a 75/25 cotton/poly 9oz blend, so a little up-market from the 18500. S&S and Alpha have them. There is not a zip version.

SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY. First off thanks for the info and secondly what you're saying is that soon the 18500's will all have tearaway labels?

I would check with Gildan, and/or your supplier if it is a must have feature for you.
