WIMS pump need replacing? Don't pay for the original

Just thought I'd share our experience with replacing the WIMS pump.

After about 4 years of constant use the pump on our white ink system gave up the ghost. The motor had seized and the gears were on their way out. The only supplier in the UK was YES ltd and they wanted £600 for a new unit.

Quick search on ebay found us a complete replacement unit for £35. It's actually for fish tanks but looks almost identical to the original and fits in hole for the original pump nicely.

Only downside is that we weren't confident about wiring it up to the circuit board that powered the original so we hooked it directly up to a 12v power supply. The printer now uses 2 plugs instead of one but apart from that runs like a dream.

Hi there, the pump that you refer to as the fish tank unit is not the WIMS pump it is the CMYK low pressure unit it helps the coloured inks to reach the head ,the WIMS pump is a perastaltic unit next to the white ink bottle (on K3) which pumps the white ink around by pinching the tube ,both of these units are cheap replacements from YES so possibly they quoted you for something that you didn't need ,my replacement fishtank pump cost around £30 ....
Glad you are sorted, its a wonder yes get any business at all. Rediculous prices, disgusting poor customer service , i would never buy from them ever
thats why we imported a machines for a fraction of the costs with no service - but what does a distributor know - all I hear from ppl who bought from distributors is that they dont have answers to a lot of questions anyway.

here's a question for you regarding the CMYK colors: the pump pumps air into the bottles - all bottles are connected to breather hole switches. where is the air tube connected?

right now we have it connected to the black ink and it all ends at the yellow bottle. we realized an ink spill in the yellow bottle. how can we avoid this? is it possible to reduce the air pressure somehow?
Airtube on K3 starts yellow to magenta to cyan to black ,airpump is a fixed unit .....

I was referring to the peristaltic pump that is attached to the white ink line and pumps the white ink. I've been told twice by YES that it only comes as a £600 complete unit that they import from Japan. The CMYK feeds don't go near it.
Hi yes it makes sense ,Hm1 owners who want to upgrade from a non WIMS system would be quoted for the whole package whereas just the perastaltic which is only a small motor with a plastic disc ontop would cost very little to replace, you mentioned a fishtank pump that is a much bigger air purifying unit inside the dtg casing ...
