I' looking for your professional advice: I have the question of why most of the posts I have seen use a inkjet printer, instead of a b/w lasser printer to produce positives?

If I use just use the inkjet, let's say twice a week, it's going to clog?

I have printed some positives in officedepot/staples & they use lasser, the only thing is, the image comes out a little smaller compare w the original size.

I'll think if I use b/w lasser, I don't have the mess of cartridges of inkjets.

The inkjet I have in mind is the epson 1430 (don't have 1400 anymore), if b/w lasser what do you recommend?
Also, what place do you recommend to get my transparency material?

From my experience with laser is that when i would print multi colors my registration was a lil off. I would see the paper shrink as the printer would get warmer. Im sure that is not always the case, i believe there are more expensive laser printer that will print good size without the shrinkage. I just find my inkjet so much easier. Also laser does not require having a rip but inkjet you would need one

The primary issue with laser printers is that they often have little or no control over the amount of toner deposited on the print medium. So you may have trouble producing dark enough transparencies.

I'm a graphic arts teacher at a high school. It's a little different situation then most of you.

We use a laser printer to create our positives. Laser is more economical for us, it can withstand the abuse that comes with kids using it, and it allows the printer to connected to the network.

Because the toner is not always opaque enough we print two copies of the design and double them up. I have never had a problem with the design shrinking or registration problems.

In my opinion you simply need to find a procedure or a work flow that you are comfortable with be it laser or inkjet.

We use the R laser film from Ryonet.
