I was going with PayPal Advanced.. loved everything about it UNTIL I found they are going to hold 20% of my transactions for 90 days (WTF?!)... so now I'm shopping around. I don't think my bank offers this service unfortunately.

I'm looking for:
-customers stay on page to use debit/credit
-ease of install
-all the whistles would be like (like shipping labels and stuff)
-reasonable access to funds (1-2 days)
-cost

pretty much in that order. Ie I dont mind paying a little more for better service.

99% is online sales

I use Chase Paymentech with Authorize.net. Funds are in account next morning (except for AMEX which takes 3 days)

If you want to use on-site payment processing you will need an SSL certificate. With all of the PCI compliance issues I just use authorize's processing on their site. You can set it to process on your site, but the liability is pretty high with PCI. Make sure your professional liability insurance covers you for data breach.

I've got a quote from Flagship.. they were on a Top Ten list of Merchants or something. The quote I received was something like (I dont have it in front of me) .98% + 21 Cents for debit and 1.98% + 21 cents for credit which came to an average of 1.48% (I remeber that number) + 21 cents. There is a $25 min + $8 Customer Service fee. Which comes to $33/mo.

SO far they are the only ones to get back to me. It was through Authorize.net. Do these fees seem practical? Compared to PP the transaction fees are alot lower. I suspect most of my transactions will be via debit cards. I don't like the $33/mo fee as a start up.. but cest la vie.

Anyone out there got a better recommendation?

Intuits merchant services is good. Check the free GoPaymet opting if your volume is low. The no monthly fee one works well for me for now by they offer lots of room to grow. Both with online services and traditional merchant accounts.
