I have a mystery i need help solving. On Friday i broke down the brother running the weekly tube cleaning cycle. Came back to work today, was on vacation :), and discovered white ink all around the inside and some outside the machine. I am the only person that has been trained to operate this unit. That being said I did not inspect the machine before i shook the inks and loaded the lines. the ink splatter is a 6in x 8in puddle under and around the drain cup. the ink traveled out the inner wall and puddled around teh control board as well as fall down the opening to the waste ink bottle. There is also splatter on the outside of the drain cup and around the caps. I'm thinking somebody else tried to use the printer while i was away because the wiper blade was covered in ink as well. So my question is what might have happened? Nobody at work can/will answer me. Sorry for wall of text and thanks for any help.

Thank you,
Anthony

Andy,

Sorry to hear about the problems. Just for clarification, you did the weekly clean before going on vacation. Did you reload the white ink or did you leave the cleaning fluid in the lines while you were on vacation? If you were able to do the weekly clean without issue, then it does not seem logically that the ink line would crack or become disconnected while the printer is not being used. You could check the ink lines to see if you can find any place where there might be some dripping.

Since there was ink on the wiper blade, it does sound like someone tried to use the machine while you were gone if you cleaned that as well before leaving. If you really want to know, you can pull the log from the machine to see if any prints were made. It will provide you the time / date and file name. All this is assuming the board that runs the log is still working.

Personally, I would focus on getting the machine back up and running. Then try to solve the mystery. The first thing I would do is call the Brother Tech Support line and ask them what the steps should be. Not sure if you have already turned the printer on or not. If not, I would not do anything tell you speak with Brother to make sure you don't do additional damage.

Best wishes in working through this one.

Thanks for the quick response. I left the cleaning fluid in the lines while gone. soon as i realized there was an issue i shut the machine down and started cleaning it, but that was after i had refilled the lines with ink. I have not had anything drip or leak today. I didn't call Brother but will and check the logs. Thank you very much. These forum is fantastic!

Hey Andy -
Hope vacation went well.
I would call brother if its still under warranty. I was told if there was a big issue to call brother direct. The reason for this is brother is trying to keep up on the machines and want to have as much info as possible on the machines- that's why more updates come out- because they are listening to owners and trying to catch any issues before everyone starts calling and they don't have a clue.

Hope this helps
Print well and prosper
