White Ink On Koozies

5167 Views 27 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  ncpawprinter
Printed some Koozies with White Plastisol Ink..... They did not come out very good. Used a 110 mesh and it was very hard to clear the screen. Used a very opaque ink, I did not want to flash.

Is there a certain ink I should be using on Koozies?

Are there any techniques you can share to make better prints?

We use a poly-killer ink and a pallet that the koozies just fit onto so they are nice and snug. Also, a very slow squeegee pull/push.
would you get dye migration with that kind of material?

I might try a 140 mesh and thin the ink out just a little with
a reducer - not a soft hand base, but something that will not affect
the opacity of the ink

One Stroke Ink has a great reducer - it's a clear liquid

are you printing flat or with a cylindrical printer?
We print flat just like other garments and neck tags. Also the poly-killer ink (one stroke) makes a good one, will keep the fabric from having dye migration.
We use a reduced poly ink with some puff additive for opacity. 110 mesh single stroke no flood. We use a koozie platen so they are nice and tight.

forgot all about the puff additive trick -

I wonder if I can make the claim now that
I have forgotten more than some people know about screen printing
- I doubt it - but hey - maybe
I printed with:
110 mesh
Koozie platten 6 at a time (flat)
White ink very opaque
2 passes

they did not come out good at all...... had a hard time clearing the screen and ink was just building up.

This time I am going to try
160 mesh
New Quart of the same white

Has anyone ever had to Flash/Print/Flash on koozies...... was thinking I would try that next see if it goes better

We do not pfp. Just single stroke and one pass. Pfp you will loose detail if not a simple design. I would think the ink (imo).

This is a very simple design..... I just had the hardest time getting the ink to go through the screen..... but when I did a second pass, that is when it would get built up and had problems. Hoping that if I use a 160 and do two passes that will even it out and not bleed all over.

I have done all of my koozies with a 160.... that was the first time using a 110 on koozies..... printed with black ink no problem. This is my first time doing koozies with white ink.... i need to figure this out quickly.
Be careful on flashing koozies, depending on the brand they can shrink drastically. If you will be PFP them I suggest flashing them before printing (similar to how 50/50 blend hoodies are done).
Just printed several black koozies with white ink. Added dulling suede to give a little puff and definition and they turned out great! One pass using a 156 mesh screen.

I have been told that before ..... give them a good 5 second flash before printing. That is my biggest fear is that they will shrink and a different problem is presented

Thin the ink add some puff to fill in the cracks. Don't hit twice. The less ink the quicker the cure and less time under the heat causing shrinkage.

Are you using enoug tack? I usually print with more off-contact than usual with cozies, looks like an issue I had once try raising the screen and not printing with a ton of pressure

So with the puff additive, when it cures it will expand and fill what is needed ????

How much should I add??

Start with 5% by weight and go from there. Your reducer will be a factor in the mix too. Start small and add as needed.

I raised my off contact but still had the same issue.... the screen would not clear of all the ink
