Hi there,

I'm brand new to vinyl cutting machines. I never own a cutting machine before. We are a SPORTS TEAM that have to order jerseys every year. We decide if we buy a cutting machine we will save so much money every year and also make a little money back. Our budget is only $1000 dollars for a cutting machine and heat press machine. I understand that its very little. We are mainly looking for a cutting machine around $500. I would also be very helpful to know what size heat press machine will be best. Thank you!

Things that our team will be making to help you help us.

- T-Shirts
- Team Sign
- Team Jerseys (basketball, baseball and flag football)
- Sweaters
etc.

Thank you again!

Re: Need CUTTER! Recommendations?

Thank you Blue,

I been reading a little about cutting machines and brand. US Cutters are they really as bad as what people say they are? I want to buy a machine that wont break so easily and so fast.

I know a lot of people are happy with some of the cheaper machines, but I'd start with a Roland or Graphtec. More expensive but you definitely get your money's worth.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to make a few tshirts/jerseys to sell to recoup some of the costs.

You're welcome. I have never used a US Cutter product. I have a Summa D-75R which runs new for $2,495 and a 16 x 20 Hix Swinger heat press that runs about $1,400. Cutters and presses can be found used or as demos also.

A good inexpensive cutter is the GCC Expert 24, as it sells for around $400. In our testing it is a pretty good cutter for the price and very easy to use. As for a heat press, I would not go any smaller than a 16 X 16. You should not have much of a problem finding a good 16 X 16 press for around $600. Just give the preferred vendors a look.

I don't really want to try and shoot down your idea, but by the time you buy a good cutter, a good heat press, the vinyl, shirt blanks, and learn how to successfully create all the things you listed above, you probably could buy a couple years worth of outfits for your sports team.

Hopefully in your plan the team will own the equipment not an individual who will be loaded down with the task of learning how to do all of this, and creating the items.

Like I said, not trying to be negative, I just see lots of potential for one of your members to get saddled with all the responsibility of learning how to do the work, getting burned out, and someone else having to pick up the ball and run with it.

Re: Need CUTTER! Recommendations?

We bought our cutter through ebay. It was from Sign Warehouse, the brand name is Seiki. We paid around $300 for the cutter + I think about $200 for a 15x15 manual heat press. Both work great. The press was a no name press with a timer. The flexi software that came with the cutter is awesome! It is very easy to use. If you are really into graphics, you can make your own eps files from a program called Inkscape. If you have a jpeg, all you have to do is trace it and it will create the vectors for you. I use photoshop to create 90% of my images, and I use Inkscape to vectorize the images. Makes things very easy to manage. Hope this helps.

Re: Need CUTTER! Recommendations?

Blank may I ask you what type of sports team are you? I mean a private team that pays for everything out of your own pockets or with a sponsorship. Or are you a sports team that gets tax dollars from the tax payers or donations from local businesses? The reason I ask is because if you get tax dollars or donations from businesses then I would recommend buying locally from a local business.

There's nothing worse then a tax recieving organization or a local donation driven organization going away from local business or worst yet competing against them. Don't get me wrong I am all for free enterprise, but if biting the hand that feeds you then something is wrong.

I hope I don't sound like a jerk, but I've been down that road a few times.

anything - i heard that the gcc expert 24 is good so ill be buying that cutter. As for heat press? im not sure but i want a 15x15. Thanks for you tips. Every little bit helps!

flower - i play a couple sports from basketball, flag football, baseball, and paintball. We do have sponsors. But no donation and no tax funds. It comes out our sponsors pocket. Getting this will help our sponsor like they help us. you dont sound like a jerk. there is a point in everything. thank you

Re: Need CUTTER! Recommendations?

Nick - iim not sure where to buy a heat press. I was just reading about sunie.com
They say that its good so probably from there. I saw a 15 x 15 for $250.
Sounds like a good deal. What you think?
I purchased my Hix heat press from a TSF Vendor, Alpha Supply Company. They provided great pre-sales support and they also provide technical support. Hix Corp is great to work with too and are very responsive to inquiries.

I'd suggest a Hix SwingMan 15" press: Alpha Supply SwingMan

If that one is over budget, you can get a Hix 15" Presto model for $230 less (going direct): HIX Corp - Presto 15
