Ive only been screen printing for a couple of years but I have an Epson 1430 and Im pretty happy with the results i get. Im sure that there is more out there on the market that may be just as good or even better but im just speaking from my personal experience
You want to use pigment ink. Some Epsons come with this, some come with dye. That said, the OEM ink can shift color when heat pressed. For good results you either have to adjust the color balance for that or use third-party inks, like Cobra. All Epson heads are piezo and can work with either dye or pigment inks regardless of what the printer came with (when using third-party carts/inks).

Simpler is better. For printing on T-shirts, I would favour a 4-color/cart model over one with 6, 7, or 8 carts. Every additional color/cart is more ink wasted when the printer cleans/maintains itself and it is just more nozzles that can plug or carts chips that can read wrong or carts to refill or buy. The increased color range and subtlety of an 8 cart printer is visible on a glossy photo print of a challenging image, but it won't be noticeable on a T-shirt.

I print JPSS (the best paper for white shirts) with a WF-7210 and Cobra refillable carts/ink. These printers were recently on sale for $149 shipped, and can print 13" wide (13x19 fits in internal trays).

I'm not a fan of the currently available transfers for dark garments. Poor durability and a heavy, plastic feel make these a bad match for what I'm doing. But obviously some find them to be appropriate for what they are doing. As to which of the relatively poor choices is the "best"? I'll leave that to others to suggest.

i agree with everything NoXid said

the transfers for darks are not great (nice color, but that's where it ends)

there are other decent suppliers of the carts (get the xl's),
so i will add inkjetcarts.us

and i think someone was using nano digital inks, but i get an internal 500 error on their site,
so i can't tell you what they have or don't have

wherever you get your inks, make sure they are heat transfer pigment inks

Epson workforce 7610- all pigment ink. Look up cobraink on the web. Great printer 13x19 prints. My buddy just upgraded to the refill carts for it and he said its works amazing with no issues. and easy to reset.
Not to hyjack the thread but how long can a 7210 or something like it set without printing without clogging? thanks

That will vary based on your environment.
If you have low humidity your print head will clog much faster then someone with the correct humidity level.
Same goes for heat, a warm house will most likely clog the head faster then a cool shop.

A week or so is a good guess. But it is recommended to print to it more or less daily to guaranty the heads stay in perfect shape. You can send a small image with all the colors in it to keep the ink fresh in the print head.

The ink is pretty cheap and a ream of paper is also...just print to it regularly and you wont have a problem. You can also set up cloud printing and print from a remote location if that suites your needs better.

Good luck!

Were these printers on sale through Epson or somewhere else? I'm looking at this particular printer. It's out of stock online at Walmart.com where it was around $150.
I got mine through amazon for 150 and free shipping

Quick question. I want to get started right out of the box when I get my printer. I decided on the workforce 7210. I know I need to just not use the supplied ink in the box (ebay maybe?). So what exactly do I need to buy from Cobra Inks? I am not going to do the CISS right now because I think it will be overkill.

Each ink kit lists the printers it is compatible with. The kit includes prefilled carts, bottles of refill ink, and syringes. Just be sure to order Pigment ink (assuming you want to do pigment transfers not dye sublimation).

I just bought the epson wf7210 off bestbuy for $150 with free shipping and 2% ebates cash back. Now, on to the ink. I'm on the cobra inks website. Is this what I need? From the picture I understand it comes with the syringes, the pre-filled carts AND the ink bottles?

Yup!

Just a matter of deciding how much refill ink you want to buy.

It's worth noting that, although larger bottles of ink may represent a long term saving, all inks have a shelf life, so your choice will ultimately depend on how much printing you are planning on doing.

Ok I am new to forum, what’s the difference from pigment transfers and dye sublimation? Looking for new printer to do T-shirt and mugs and plates. Was given a Ricoh aficio 3110dn. I know it’s at least t years old. Don’t think it’s compatible with my Mac book. So looking for a printer suggestion. Thanks

Can I use ink that comes with the new WF-7210 and then order from Cobraink to replenish?
I have the WF7610 and my buddy back east who uses the epson WF 7610 has never had a head clog in the past 2 years of using his cobra ink and he prints maybe 1 week and i have upgraded my carts as well awhile ago and i havent had no issues either. I also upgraded my Hp8630 Carts to refills and they work just as great. No clogging issue at all. I print maybe a a couple sheets a week right now since im still very busy with my decals etc.But i also use my 7610 for photography.
