We are looking at the Roland GX24(24 inch) and the GX 300Pro (36 inch). Also comparing the Graptec CE5000-60(24 inch) and CE5000-120 (48 inch)If the cost was not a consideration which unit would you choose and why.I dont want to buy something now and wishing I bought the other one.The 24 to 36 to 48 is something I want to know if the bigger cutters are really needed.Any thoughts would be great. Thanks Gary

It all depends on what your long term objective is. If all you want to do is either print and cut; or cut iron on t shirt material then one of the 24" models would do you fine.

If you ever plan on cutting vinyl graphics for cars, boats, truck, banners etc.. then you will need a larger plotter. A 30" plotter would do well for this type of application plus you could still use it for the same applications you would use the 24" plotter for.

If you think you will ever want a large format printer (car wraps, murals, banners), say 48+" wide then you may want to look at the wider plotters.

Now if I had to limit my decision between the Roland or Graphtec, that would be hard. Both are very nice and capable plotters and have tech support if needed. This will sound pretty simple, but between the two I would probably go with the Roland, only because it seems that replacement cutting blades are less expensive.

If I did not have to limit my decision between the Roland and Graphtec, I would probably get a Summa:)

I thought my first cutter i bought was over kill,
and now I am so thankful every day I have a 34 inche cutter for signage and wall art and banners,,
and it will still cut a 1 inch by 1 inch decal,,,

If you plan on doing any thing with any of the above, go bigger,,
My personal opinon here..

I agree. I had a customer once post on a Yahoo group... "Buy your second cutter first!" I thought that was really funny, but she made a really good point.

We are just ordering our first cutter and decided on the graphtek over the Roland for a couple reasons, in no particular order; free stand with the graphtek, more cutting force, better price, and most importantly, I can run it right from my
Mac with a plug in for adobe illustrator, so no new programs to learn...or pay for. That last one was actually huge for me. With the Roland I would have had to have a dedicated PC to run it.
