Hi guys,

I'm from the UK and I've been using my cheap A4 Canan PIXMA printer to print on Jet Pro SoftStretch light transfer paper and it seems to be doing a decent job... and it uses dye inks!

However, i'm wanting to buy an A3 printer so I can print bigger designs. I've read about how using Pigment inks is much better than Dye inks because of them being water resistant and better in sunlight, so I'm thinking about going with a Pigment ink printer.

I've looked online and it's between:

Epson WorkForce WF-7710DWF

Epson WorkForce WF-7610DWF (This is slightly more expensive. I'm not sure why. I would have thought the WF-7710 would have been the newer model).

Brother MFCJ5330DW

Brother MFC-J6530DW

I also plan on buying reusable cartridges and bottles of ink so I can refill them myself to save on ink costs.

If anyone has used any of these printers, I'd love to hear how they are.

Thanks!

are not those brothers pigment only in black and the colors are dye?

hp makes a few all pigments now
mgparrish uses one and likes it so far
unlike the epson it uses a little heat at the printhead to help inkflow
search in the heat-press section here

Hey thanks for the reply!

I think the Brother printers i'm looking at are pigment inks for both black and colours. Here's what they say about one - "Brother’s pigment-based inks will give you sharp black text and vibrant colours every time".

That sounds pretty cool about the HP heating the inks slightly!
Yeah if there are any other printers anyone knows off that are around a similar price, let me know! I was swayed to the Epson because it seems like it's the brand most people have.

Would love to hear more from you guys!

I have the epson WF 7610 and love it.I use it alot for my photography printing and just started playing with JPSS transfer paper and it did very well on my first test......

,But i also use a monitor calibrator and printer calibrator to make sure my prints are dead on with what i see on my screens.
.The WF7610 is great printer...Im in the process of getting refillable cartridges that my friend back in North Carolina uses for his and he has no complaints for any of his printing or refilling the cartridges,Just remove, add ink and go....

One thing to check will other printers is that ALL INKS are pigment .some brands will only have Black Pigment and the other colors will be Dye ink... I know the WF 7610 is all pigment..

The 7620 is a nice printer if you need the 2 tray setup. I didnt care if i needed to change papers or not, Plus it was a little cheaper as well..

Nice! So it works fine then? No jamming, inks clogging up, etc? I had to look up what a monitor calibrator is. Looks like a handy tool to have.

Yeah i'm definitely going to make sure that they're all pigment ink. The cheap canon printer I have right now is dye based apart from the black. I have read online that people have used dye inks for years without problems but I think i'd rather go with pigment because it is probably better to be honest.

Thanks for the reply!

Anyone else used any printers in this price range?

The epson 7610 is all pigment ink..I havent had any clog issues, and sometimes i have gone 2 weeks without printing .I just leave it on so it does its own maintenance etc.

With pigment, they are waterproof as well. And you can also do photo ink transfer which is really cool to do .where you can print an image( in reverse) and actually glue the ink only and then clear coat it,If you want more info on that let me know ..

As for the calibrating software etc , I use this called a spyder5 studio kit. they have a basic kit, But i wanted accuracy for my photography and printing as well..

Nice! Thanks for letting me know! I didn't know that it did maintenance if you leave it on. I'm only just getting into transfer printing so i'm very new to this. I don't have huge experience with printers either to be honest. Just used the standard stuff for years without taking notice of the type of inks and stuff like that.

Yeah pigment sounds way better. It's got to be better than dye inks even if they do hold up well. I'm unsure what you mean about photo ink transfer, glue the ink only and clear coat...? Does this improve the print when pressing on a T-Shirt?

Cool i've really never seen this calibration stuff before. Looks real nice. I might get one in the future! Thanks :D

I noticed that mgparrish liked your post. I've skimmed a few threads on here and his name has popped up a few times. Seems to be pretty experienced in inkjet pigment transfer printing. Hmm i'm torn between going for the Epson you've got or maybe a HP? The warming inks stuff sounds interesting. But the Epson has that 'Precision Core' technology... hmm....

Hi again guys. I was just going to buy the Epson WF-7610DWF online but I read something that confused me.

I'm from the UK and I have found the Epson WF-7610DWF cheapest at Argos.

Here is the page:

http://www.argos.co.uk/product/6223630?storeID=463&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59158|cid:598893978|agid:24310690130|tid:pla-280391639476|crid:86876734970|nw:g|rnd:5169955059977551784|dvc:c|adp:1o4|mt:|loc:1007064&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzL2ik4_x2AIVhecbCh3Y-AykEAYYBCABEgL-JvD_BwE

I was reading the description and noticed that it said, "The machines PrecisionCore system uses professional-quality DURABrite Ultra Ink, which blends pigment-based and dye-based inks for a water-resistant and smudge-resistant result on a range of media types."

I thought this Epson printer was pigment-based only? As I am going to be refilling cartridges myself, do you think I can fill them with pigment ink bought from an online supplier?

I'm just confused about this blend of pigment and dye inks they mention.

Hi, thank you for sharing your thoughts about this. I'm about to buy this Epson and have the same concern. Were you able to find an answer? Thank you!!
