I suggest that you contact the supplier. They may be able to provide an easy fix that you can do yourself. If not, they should be able to offer advice as to where it can be repaired.

I need to get my heat presser looked at. I think it is shorting out. What kind of repairshop should I take it too?
If it smells like it is burning it is most likely a wire joined with a wire nut that has gone thin over time. If you unplug it open up the back you will easily be able to see it. Just cut the wire back ,strip off 1/2" of insulation, twist the wires back together and put on a new wire nut.

I have to do this every couple of years. Only other thing is the thermostat goes bad. By the part put it in. My machine is 17 years old.

More than likely a wire is burned off from the top heat element. I just fixed mine for the second time. I went to a electrical place and bought heavier wire and fixed it. It had two wires burned from the heat element. Mine was a Pro world. Its about 10 years old and it has been a very good one. Its a easy fix.

Yeah it is. The only issue is it's usually not a good idea to mess with wire gauges. That's the same as putting a 20 amp fuse in a 15 amp circuit. lala Electricity... Don't get any on you!

Well when it keeps burning the wire off the end of the element, that tells me the gauge of the wire is too small or the end that clamps on the wire can not hold up to the heat. Not only that it was a recommendation from a certified electrician to step it up one gauge bigger.

Fine and dandy. Did it ever occur to you that I might be an electrician as well? It's ok to not know. Been there done that.

Look I am not going to argue with you. I have better things to do. That was the recommendation from MY CERTIFIED ELECTRICIAN. I could care less what the hell you are. So as far as I am concerned this subject for me is closed. Go find some one else to ARGUE with.

Holy Cow Batman, they are going to short circuit each other right here on the forum.. but back to the original problem.. If by chance your press is a Hix, call them they are great at customer service and helping you fix it over the phone... I tried to see where you live but can't get it from your profile.. Florida I can tell you where to take it... Southern Illinois bring it to me.. I am not a certified electrician but I can fix it.. Mean while same situation.. tell us where you are and maybe someone locally can press this order for you... Most of us are pretty friendly easy going and willing to help.. A six pack of rolling rock goes along way.. You do need some basic electrical understanding and an ohm meter helps... Most presses that fail are in a timer, some switch or bad wires in the element... don't start taking it apart without unplugging it..

Thanks for all the feedback. I took my machine to an electrician as I have no idea about electrical stuff all I know is that if I flip the on switch it should work!! lol!! Any how there was a loose connection in there and it melted the circuit board. I got a hold of the manufacturer and they have overnighted me a new circuit board. I live near corpus christi, texas. I went to a screen printing shop to see what they would charge me to do my t-shirts I explained to them what had happened and that I needed these shirts by saturday. They wanted 2 charge me $3 bucks a shirt!!! so ill wait for circuit to come in and pull a couple of late nighters to get it done.
