Morning guys...I been progressing along here, I have a question I cant seem to figure out lol.

What colors should be increased on a dark shirt?....everything?..Only light colors?

I have a design logo that is only white and hot pink..like really hot pink on black hoodies...so should I have to under base the hot pink also...attached is a pic of the burnt screens...the guy is white and the heart is the pink..again on black hoodies

The white heart is 3 of smaller the pink one

Thanks greatly..jist don't want to be wasting ink and doing more than is needed

Unfortunately, the short answer is it depends on your inks and your process. High opacity inks may not require underbasing when printing on 100% cotton but may if printed on 50/50. Some high opacity inks may require underbasing depending on the color. Regular inks may require underbasing all the time and all the colors. Sorry that I can't give you a formula, but this is actually one of the fun parts of being a screenprinter - learning all the time what works for you.

Over time you'll learn what colors need under-basing.
Generally speaking; reds, pinks, brighter yellows and greens and most oranges need an under-base to look as bright on the shirt as they do in the bucket.
Fluorescent colors and process colors pretty much always need an under-base unless printed on white or natural backgrounds.

Heres a new question -- lol full of em

I did a shirt few weeks agi-- just trial and error thing-- 3 colors with white underbase. The shirt washed and dried well-- well its had like 4 wears and washes-- noticing now its starting to crack when I pull opposing ways-- what did i do wrong-- too much heat? not enough heat ?

thanks guys, this is the exact reason I havent started to "sell shirts" yet--

thanks guys,
Markus

It Sounds like your issue with the shirt cracking after a few washing is the ink not being cured all the way, I use plastisol inks and for them to cure they have to hit 330 degrees though I have gotten away with 320. I always stretch test a couple shirts out of a run and should I find one that cracks back through the dryer they all go

It could be the white ink you are using. Wilflex has about 20 different white inks. I would suggest talking to your ink sales rep about which white is right for you. Some white inks have more stretchability. Some work better as an underbase. Some are brighter. And even if you do research they are constantly coming out with new white inks. Here is a link to the wilflex page with all the plastisol whites.

Wilflex™ Epic White Inks | PolyOne

At our shop we switched to using all low cure inks for everything. They are more expensive, but the number of headaches the low cure has saved I think they are worth the extra money. The wilflex low cure I like the best is the is the epic single lc white. But, for underbase I like the OneStroke ELT-S white.
