im looking for some advice on when to use rip software, and what is the cheapest rip software available..?

do i need to use it to print on black shirts?

what about all the other colors including white?

Personally I don't have a dtg printer but I believe that you would need a rip if you are putting out halftone films for screen printing.

RIP software helps you fine-tune colors and layout your graphics on wide-format printers.
You can use RIP software to prep your graphics for use on anything, shirts, signs, mugs, etc.
A very cost effective RIP package is VinylMaster XPT.

One thing you can do is try it on a subscription and if you like it, then buy it.

Ok so here is the answer to your question - the main purpose of RIP is to fine tune the color profiles to get the correct output AND create a white undebrase if you are using white ink. No RIP no white ink printing. You can do a lot more stuff with it also but those above are the main fetures. There are cheap RIPS but they are totally usless commecialy.

You will not buy a decent RIP below 1000 $.

I believe EK Rip by Eukon Print Studios is around $850, or was, it has more features and control than almost any other rip out there for DTG. Excellent rip.

Very decent RIP but it lacks the basic function of non using black ink on black t shirts.

I believe you can do black knock-out with EK....you can even set a pixel range

My personal opinion is rip software is mandatory to produce professional quality in a dtg application.
