Hello,

Im trying to figure out what vinyl cutter to buy. Basically what I want to do is print out my heat transfer images from photoshop, using a epson workforce 1100 and then use the cutter to cut the heat transfers accurate to press onto t-shirts. I've been reading these forums for about a week now and I know the Roland and Graphtec are the best but my budget is from $500-1000. Please direct me to what cutter would work best for me and the software I use, plus I have a Macbook Pro as well. Thank you so much guys.

I have a US Cutter mh-721. I keep hearing how bad it is but I've had it for a year and have done a lot of work and it hasn't given me any problems at all. The price is around 400-500.

I think what you are looking for is a cutter that will do contour cutting. The MH721 doesn't have an optic eye or laser to perform this. I just purchased the MH721 also from ebay and only paid 102.00 for a 24 inch cutter. :)

USCutter does have a laser point cutter but can't give advice on how well it works. I'm sure some of the more seasoned pro's will chime in.

Nice lol I paid 350 for my 24"and got 12 colors of 24" vinyl by 10yds for $100 with it. I use adobe illustrator. It doesnt have contour cuts but when you copy and paste your image into the signblazer software and make a clipping mask around it you will have an image to be cut just like a contour cut. I've used a $12,000 Summa that cuts and prints and the only difference is more settings and that it prints. The US Cutter takes a litle more work to get your image where it needs to be but it has the same end result.

If your top end is 1 grand, I would try to squeeze a few more bucks out and go for the Roland or Graphtec. They will give you a lot more options and will have no problems with contour cutting. JMHO.

Since I just bought this cutter I would be interested to see how you do this? I will PM you because I don't want to get off the thread starters topic.

Are you saying you can print an image with registration marks on an epson printer, then load it into your mh 721 and it will contour cut the printed image?

I wanted to do the same thing, contour cut my heat transfers. What I've learned though, is that cutters will not cut a single sheet of paper. The paper needs to have a backing, like vinyl. I'm not sure of this and if anyone knows for sure, appreciate more info.

I have the Graphtec and it will put in the reg. marks for you in their software. If you want to cut something without a backing, you will need a carrier sheet so you won't screw up your cutting strip. My Graphtec cut right out of the box and I have not had any problems with it. Looking forward to start cutting stencil material for rhinestones soon. :)

What you have to do is draw your image in illusrator exactly how you want it to look as black nd white black being the image you want your design to be and white as what you will weed out. copy and paste your finished image into signblazer software and go to create outline. a pop up will show up asking to keep original, remove overlaps, or both. If the design has layers then you'll want to remove overlaps or it will only cut the farthest outline. if it's just one color shape then you can just keep original. once you make the outline it should look exactly like your illustrator design and that is exactly what the us cutter will cut.

OK, that is pretty much what all plotters do, not really contour cutting, more like outline cutting. The op wanted a plotter that can contour cut a printed image. In order to contour cut a printed image the plotter needs at leats a laser pointer or better yet an optical eye tht can read registration marks on the printed image sheet.
Here is a link to a video showing contour cutting.
If the mh721 could do this plus have servo motors instead of stepper motors it would be the bomb.
