Exactly what Drue said. They also sell them if you don't want to make one.

Another tip that I think helps especially around the zipper is to thin the ink out a bit.

Instead of creating a whole new platen, you can just add two pieces of 1/4" masonite and leave a space down the middle, you will have to adjust the off contact a bit, but you wont have to create a whole new platen. you can just pray tack the pieces to the existing platen

I really like that idea. nice and simple...i was going to break out the router as i have a few zip hoodies i want to print on..but no router now.
