What to charge customers for decals?

I have been making decals for our business, but recently I have started making some here and there for other businesses when they ask. My problem is I don't know what to charge? I am currently making some for a lawn care business, and they are 45" x 10". He is wanting to make three signs so I have to make him 18 decals. What would be a fair amount for that size decal?

Not sure I understand the situation. This sounds like it might be part of the new Common Core education. How are 18 decals being used on 3 signs? Are these printed? Are they die cut?

Signs are double sided and there are three lines per side. So 6 decals per sign x 3 signs equal 18 decals. ;)

Not printed just using Oracal 651 vinyl.

If I read this correctly (6 per sign divided by 2 sides per sign) that is 3 per side?. Are all 3 decals on one side the same? Example, 3 circles per side or are you talking 3 different decals per side such as a circle, square and triangle?

Each side of the sign is going to have the business name; underneath that will have "licensed and insured"; underneath that will have his phone number. Nothing fancy just lettering. He will be putting those three lines of lettering on each side of the sign. Each line of lettering will be measuring the same 45" wide x 10" tall. I just don't know how much to charge for that size decal?
In that case you can't look at this as 18 decals. At least not in the sense that most people in the business would look at it. We would think (at least I did) that you were talking 18 decals all the same design. You are actually trying to figure out pricing on 6 decals. The number of decals that are the same. What you need to do is figure out how much material you will be using per decal. Time it takes to load the design and vinyl. Cut, weed and mask the design. The time portion you would use in conjunction with what you charge per hour for labor. Then add the material cost and what you want for profit. We usually don't charge as much per piece if doing multiples of the same design as we would if we were just doing a single piece.

I would suggest timing the operation per design. This way you get an idea for calculating future work.

Thank you for the info. I'm just working on them hear and there in between what I have to get done for our business so I haven't kept up with the time. What would you charge if you were doing something similar? Any guess? :)

Well that subjective. What goes in my part of the country may not fit your part but...if we are just selling the decals and not applying them or the substrate I would estimate $15-20 ea. I base this on using a 24" roll of vinyl being able to set two up side by side.

Thank you very much. That helps a lot. I was thinking around $10-$15 each when I first started doing them so I think that is what I will go with.
You need to get the computer graphics pricing guide it's what sign shops use...
That seems like a lot of work, when you can buy the one all sign shops use ?
Cad cut has a calculator to help price shirts and decals
I really have a hard time following this but it looks like 3 double sided signs at 4'x1'. Did I get that right?

I am thinking about $60 a sign.
Binki, I am not sure how big the sign surface is but from what I gathered from the OP each line of text or decal is 45" x 10". It sounds like the OP is just cutting and taping the decals so the client can apply. That was my interpretation.
Hmm, I don't like multi layer RTA but if that is the case to cut/weed/mask maybe $25 each if it isn't too much trouble?
This is gonna seem like a d*ck answer, but if you're in business, you should be able to figure out costs/prices with a calculator and pencil & paper. Only you know your overhead and (should) know your local market. What's a good/correct price for someone can easily be wrong for someone else.
