With what is said of American Apparel, Next Level, Alternative Apparel and others is Anvil in the same category or not close?

I don't think so. Anvil is along the same level as Gildan, FOL and Jerzees and maybe Haynes.

If you like it and your customers like it, that's quality enough.

Just because others are using American Apparel or Next Level Apparel doesn't mean that you should. Not every t-shirt project uses the same t-shirt, so it's important to get samples and see which ones YOU like or that you think your customers would like.

Even if 100 people say "American Apparel is the best t-shirt", you could still put it on and feel that it's too lightweight for the style you want for your project.
