I am new here. I am new to screen printing and very terrible with photoshop - Why do i screen print you ask? cus i like to make everything personalized lol ..

But I am not sure how to seperate colors to do more then 2 screens .. SO what software do you use .. What tips did you find helped you out in the beginning (if you want to share that would be great)

I have a 6 color team mascot that I am attacking and when i did the ol paint bucket trick in photoshop and printing each one individually i came up a lil shy!

I printed my reg marks and lined things up .. so im starting to learn a few things .. Thanks to the internet and youtube .. I swear I dont know how hobbyists learned things before the internet lol

and everything lined up GREAT but in between the out line of black and the filler inline it missed some spots .. if im not makin since i will take a picture tomorrow and upload it to explain .. Im just so frusturated .. CUs im so close to figuring it out on my own ..

Im a stay at home mom and with the kids goin back to school next week I would like to turn this into a job ... Im aware I wont be makin the big bucks - the economy isnt wonderful .. but it would be great to make a lil money for our family all while doin something im enjoyin and keepin my brain running and keepin me busy during the day ..

Ok well thank you so much I really appreciate any help you have ..

:):p:eek::confused::rolleyes:;):):eek::D:eek::)

Select Colour Range is better than the wand, you can play with the settings there.
Jamie, you mentioned 2 screens so I presume it is a 2 color image without any shades or gradient. If the image is in actual size and has a resolution between 200-300dpi then things would be easier. Just use the color range tool as Dave suggested.

Try search "color separation with photoshop" at youtube or use whatever keyword you may feel appropriate. There are helpful tutorials there.
If it's simple I do it my self in Photoshop, Illustrator or FlexiSign it depends on which program the image was produced before it was sent to me or if I made it. If it's real difficult, I use Wilflex Easyart.
Most programs will let you do separations if you are using Spot Colors and not CMYK or RGB. As my name says I use Corel, it like the other program will let you use several color pallets. When you go to print the design it will separate the colors on to different sheets for burning your screens.
Q if you are doing personalized items and looking to keep cost down why not do inkjet transfers, If you are using white or light colored shirts? Less cost, mess and work.

You could try this. Take what you have to a copy machine and make a copy as large as you can on a piece of paper. Then redraw just the black parts (hopefully the mascot is outlined in black) then scan this into your computer. Trace the design, then add the color into the white areas (remember to use sport colors). Print the separations and you are ready to go.
I am still using CorelX4 for most of the things I do. I started with Corel 2 (shudder) didn’t like it and then 3 came out, each one has gotten better. I will not say I know everything about the program, there is just too much there to know everything it can do. Your next question may be how do you learn the program…by trying to do a design. I am self taught and I have to say there isn’t much I can’t make the program do after all these years. Don’t let the design complicate what you need to do. If it has text, don’t trace it if you can type it in. If it is text in a circle, draw the circle and type in the text, don’t trace it. I have to say over the years I have gotten to the point I don’t trace anything, I have found it is faster for me to recreate the design than to clean up a bad trace. However, in the beginning I did trace everything and so will you until you get use to the program and what you are able to achieve.

Ok, here comes another plug for Stahls Id Direct. Take a look at the older Corel Lessons under their Technical Support information. There are a few on tracing and cleaning up art work that may help you get started.

If you are wanting to get serious about printing and separating multicolor artwork you may want to take a look at an automated separating program such as Spot/Process, VueRite. Good Luck

Corel Draw X5 (I think X5 is the latest). You can download their trial first and purchase after the trial.
You're welcome! CorelDRAW X5 is the latest version, you may need to download an update from Corel's site after installing. Note this version is for XP and up and is on a DVD.
