What size do you guys print at ? Different size for each size of Tee ?

Hey Guys

Iv a BN-20 and im just about to print out some pretty big full colour rectangle designs for some t-shirts and im wondering what size do you print ?

For mens xxl, xl, l, m, s, do you change the sizes for all these so they look better or do you have the same size for most ? same goes for Ladies etc.

Also do you use a rule set for your t-shirts ? For example do you start your design about 3 inches down from the colar of the t-shirt and maybe 2 inches in from each side as im sure the design could go around our bodies and not look so well.

Im having a go now myself, if anyone who wants to help out with advice or what you guys do yourselfs that would be great.

Cheers

I generally use 12" wide 13" IMO is max width, and I try to stay to approx: 15" in height or less. (this also fits my screens well)

This I use for xxL to L

you will have to figure the rest, best to find your own comfort-ability :0)

From what I have picked up here and use, the 4 finger from collar method has been great.

Good luck

I do enlarge the print for the XL and XXL. I usually use four finger for adult shirts, less for toddler and youth. I always make my design in corel to be a whole number , if my design comes out to be say 10.25" I will either bump up to 10.5" or down to 10". I have done a lot of shirts, but I will still drop a t-square on it to check, this way if you have a "15 platten and you design is 10". you simply check for 2.5" on one side. I don't trust my eyes alone to eyeball center, old age I guess. Hope this helps a little. Mark

Hi

Thanks for reply but i dont understand anything you have written, im new to this business.

If you have a 13 inch wide print for an xl would you just go down an inch for L ? and a another inch for M etc etc ?

Also where would you resize ? in Roland Versa ? PS ?

Cheers

You would resize in your design program. Someone more versed could help on the size of graphics for different placements on shirts, front, back, chest etc. Youtube is a great source. If you search the forum I know it is here somewhere. Mark

We don't size for shirt size except youth will normally get a smaller version. Normally we are 12" on fronts max but can go down to 8". It depends on the shirt.

As for placement, if it is wide but not tall you need to start around mid arm hole, maybe 2/3 down. That is the opening for the arm. On a womans shirt you want the print to start above the bustline, otherwise it will look wrong.

On tall prints you can start them higher up.

Here are some examples. https://www.google.com/search?q=tsh..._IrZAhUrwFQKHQkbDyUQ_AUICigB&biw=1600&bih=769

I will normally ask the customer what is the smallest size shirt they will be ordering, and then make the design as big as possible that will still look good on that size shirt. I also let them know that the design will be the same for all size shirts. This is especially true for multi color designs. I normally print to order, so I am not going to make a whole new set of screens for just a handful of smaller or larger shirts. If there are a lot of small or larger size shirts, I will offer to make an additional set of screens if they are interested in paying for them as well. Most of my customers will normally rather have as large of a design as possible so they are normally ok with an extra large design on a youth size shirt. Would love to hear what others do... Aloha

Hey

My design is a colourful rectangle 10 in x 13.

Heat pressed it onto a L sample i got which is an American brand which i think is an XL in the UK.

Had a bit of trouble with the t-shirt being that big and my heat press which is 38x38 also its not a swing away its a budget heat press.

I had to press it twice as it never stuck the first time as the corners where coming off a little so just give it another 15 seconds at 150C and it seems to have done the trick altho i done it again after i pulled the transfer paper off just to be on the safe side.

Do you have to put your t-shirts in through the heat press ? so only 1 layer of cotton is between the press ? or can you just place the full t-shirt in and heat press the whole lot ? so 2 layers of cotton or wouldn't it transfer ?

Does anyone use tape to align their designs to make sure they are centered and then heat press ?

Cheers

Chris, you do not have to thread t-shirt over platen. Use a lint roller, pre-press shirt for 5 seconds to get moisture out. Follow manufacturers instructions. Most vendors on the t-shirt forum site have support videos, check them out, they are very helpful. What type of transfer are you using? Mark

so you can just lay a t-shirt onto the heat press and press ?

I dont think iv seen anyone do that before (50+ videos stahls etc) that is why im asking here to see if anyone else does it as the xxl t-shirts will be a nightmare to do.

Yea i heat press the t-shirt to get it all smooth but iv never put the full t-shirt in. Its always been just the front so was wondering if others put the whole t-shirt Back & front) into the heat press and if its all good ?

this is very accurate. I do 11-12 inch for sm-m
13in-14in for L-5X. The height is automatic to keep design proportional .
