My wife loves creating and selling her items at local markets, street fairs, etc. She does a lot with vinyl but has come across dye sub and wants to start doing it. Her goal is to start printing throw pillows, coffee mugs and other misc home decor type items.

I want to surprise her and get her a setup she can start with. She will need the printer and heat press from what I have gathered. I'm looking to spend around $700-$1000 total for both.

I've asked her if their anything in particular that she wants in the items.
One thing important to her is being able to print bigger then 8.5x11 because the pillows she wants to do will all be around 18x18, etc. Also she likes the swing away heat presses but that isn't a deal breaker.

What would you recommend buying?

Increase your budget a little and get her a used Geo knight swing away press (DK20S). An Epson 7210 printer (prints up to 13x19"). Don't forget the refillable ink cartridge and bottles to refill with.

Press $800-$1000
Printer $150-$200
Ink $100

This will be a great set up.

Thanks. Is the 7210 better then the 7110? I came across that and been reading about. Also for dye sub, what do you think is most important. The printer or the press? Also, do I need to buy her a CIS system off the get go or can she just the cartridges that come with it?

You will need dye sub ink and this wont be in the cartridges that come with the printer, so yes you will need a CISS and dye sub ink for that printer from the beginning. Also, you will need a mug press for mugs as a flat press cannot sublimate mugs (or alternatively get some mug wraps and use your oven to sublimate these).

Thanks. So are the 7210 good? I was looking at reviews on Amazon and others and they seem to have bad reviews (from people using them in the traditional way) Is this still the best one for the money and size?

Also, what heat press should I look at getting her? I looked into the Geo Knight 16x20 used but couldn't find one under $1,000 right now and would like to stay around $500 or so with a press if possible.

Thanks

Not sure if you saw this post, and I have no clue the quality of the equipment, maybe if you are interested someone on the forums can give you some input...but since it has both a mug press and a heat press is in your budget range :)

I believe the Epson 7110 has been discontinued and the 7210 is its replacement. It's the recommended one here, especially for new/home users. There are more expensive ones that would, presumably, do someting better/be faster/be sturdier, but from what I've read the 7210 is good enough.
