I have 3300 and hate it so takeing up a poll for my next printer buy. This is my second printer and is clogged AGAIN.

so looking at a new one. I would love wide format to get away from this small ink problem stuff. but can't afford the price of a new wide format

we have 2 1280's. one is always running and the other sits until the running one breaks and we take the sitting one and have it refurbed and park the broken one. they last about 2 years.
What color is clogged? Have you tried to clean
the capping station?

Red. Yep done flush clean and all that junk. It's not as bad as it was last time
Had my 3300 for 18 months, wouldn't swop it for anything, i'd pack up before i went back to an Epson with the head clogging.
Funny how we all have different opinions.
Conde and others have tried to see me the ricoh but i have $1000 of ink sitting in the 1280. To spend another $1K to get a new machine that can't use that ink doesn't make sense to me.

We have an epson repair shop close by and the owners are great to work with. For $300 they refurb my printer every couple of years and it is just like new.

Now, if we did any volume of dyesub at all we would skip the sawgrass route and go with a large format printer.
I use brother desktop printers. Why? coz it can accept refillable cartridges of 80-100ml capacity and there is no silly tubes.

I think you mean no external tubes? Like the Ricoh and larger format Epsons (17 inch or greater width) the carts are stationary and long "tubes" transport the ink to the print head. In a desktop Epson there are no tubes, the carts are on top the print head and travel with it.

The tubes are there just inside the printer.

See page 6,

"Note
The machine will prepare the ink tube system for printing. This process will take approximately four minutes. Do not turn off the machine."

I am curious though if you are using sub inks in the Brother? It is a piezo ink jet so possible for sublimation.

No i mean tubes as in CISS system for epson.
And yes. its piezo technology . same as in epson. Brother will give you lovely printouts. As you mentioned its like ricoh. carts in one place and they are connected to head with some tubes inside. carts are huge so no need for ink refiling every 5min. also no more air locks. not as often as with epson any way...

Yes, the Brother looks like a nice printer, has the extra capacity like the Ricoh but at Epson prices. I guess the point is moot for sublimation if the inks are not available for it.

So back to my question, are you currently using the Brother for sublimation as it relates to the OP's topic?
well... you can use NAY sublimation ink that you would use with your epson. you can also use Artanium ink. no problem. I used artanium and it give perfect prints.

ANd Yes. I do use brother printer for sublimation.

Well that is good information.

I guess the big unknown is whether the Brother printer gets hosed by sub inks and may eventually die like some of the Ricoh's have.

Only extended usage and testing would answer that question, but the cost on the Brother is so low it is only a small gamble. At a couple hundred bucks (US) if it lasts a year and dies no big deal. The larger Ricohs are $1500 USD and is a big deal if it dies after a year.

How long have you been using the sub inks in the Brother and how often do you print if I might ask?
I got my Brother about an 1 year now. I am not selling my sub prints. doing only for hobby but i do print a lot.

this is why i decided to give them a go. if my printer die after 12 mc i will bin it and replace with another one. i got this one for about $60 of ebay brand new. so what I had to losse? nothing! And now brother is my printer of choice. and quite few more in UK.

I went back and looked at the specs again at the US site. Actually for $200 (US$ street price is likely lower) you get a scanner and wifi since it is an all in one, this is cheaper than Epson for the new tabloid size model without scanner and wifi actually. Epson lists about $200 now for the new WF 7010 series tabloid size, but no scanner and no wifi.

Not having a 13 x 19 option is not a deal breaker, but would be nice.

Print speeds at least in the specs look good but one cannot tell unless you actually print, I checked the ISO report but you can't really draw a good conclusion from that.

So a couple more questions.

How fast can it do a ...

1. 11 x 17 full page graphic tshirt transfer in a low enough print quality setting to give a good output without banding (best usable speed).

2. 11 x 17 full page graphic transfer at the highest quality setting, for hardgoods where the DPI matters.

thx
