I get asked this alot by customers.

I've been using the Wagner Control Spray Double Duty for some time now, and I find that for the price, it cannot be beat. The variable control spray produces a fine mist that can be made wider or slimmer very easily.

What are some of you using?

Edit: I tried to get the link to go to Wagner's site, but it wouldn't work right...

I use the same type gravity feed HVLP sprayer. You do need an air compressor however, I also have an electric HVLP sprayer. It still uses compressed air it just does it itself. I prefer both these over the Wagner. More control less waste. Also when teaching how to spray I use water and have them spray on cardboard so they can see the coverage and pattern.

Who makes this?

There are a couple of manufacturers (Graco, Capspray, Titan).

They use a turbine as opposed to compressed air (an advantage for painting... not really needed for pretreat). The downside to these units is the large diameter airhose hooked to the gun (pain in the arse to manoeuvre). The guns themselves cost between $200-$250 and are quite fragile (i broke several during my painting career).

I use a Wagner also, but am not satisfied with the control of the flow. I want to buy another sprayer. Is there a reason you recommend a gravity fed sprayer over a siphon fed gun? Thanks!

Hi Jim, we have been using this gun for a couple of months now and it is night and day from the previous Wagner sprayers. I don't know about the technology of the gun, I just know it works and it works well. Very little over spray, uses a good force with a consistent spray and it's easy to clean. I think you can buy one for $85, and in my opinion, it's well worth the money.

P.S. Mine is the Wagner Control Double Duty, and honestly not satisfied with it. That's why I am open to a better sprayer. I want to be able to control the spray better than the Wagner does. I would appreciate any suggestions. The siphon fed gun seems to me more user friendly than the gravity fed gun, especially that we need to spray down onto the shirt sitting on a table. I just want to buy the correct sprayer this time.

There is more than one double duty. My last one was a double duty, but it didn't have the HVLP technology. It makes a tremendous difference. If you purchase it and didn't like it, you could take it back, but my guess is you would like it.

Thanks for the reply.
Mine has the HVLP technology. I put a bolt on the trigger mechanism just to keep from pressing down on the trigger too much and applying too much pre-treatment. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but am totally unhappy with it. I have just been too busy to look for another sprayer, plus I recently got this one, and am making due with it. I am definitely getting a better sprayer. Later I will consider a pre treat machine, but need to build up the DTS business first.

That's pretty surprising. The control on the trigger I'm talking about lets you push it in a little and control how much liquid comes out. The more you push it, the more it comes out. If you look at Kevin's link, is this the same gun you are talking about?

Yes the more you push the more it sprays, but it sprays too little or too much. That's what I mean by not having the control I want.
