Can't reply specifically for Corel, but in general it is all down to the type of licence given. Nearly all of the features will be enabled, except maybe some very high end professional features. Maybe you won't get the upgrades that you will with a full commercial licence.

Be aware that you are likely commiting fraud if you use a student licence for commercial work, if you get caught. It is probably easier to get caught than you would imagine.

I have used student and educator licensed software many times, but NOT for CorelDraw.
The special compensation versions I have used were IDENTICAL to the full price versions. IF upgrades were available, they applied to both.

What you may be unaware of is everytime you power up your puter, it will broadcast to the world every piece of software installed and as well as the version, your OS and security programs in place. And if you are a social media junkie, Facebook and Google get an update of anyone new on your contact list.

ONe would not need to be a worker at the Jet Perpulsion Laboratory to employ code to listen for "Corel" and find all associations.

Becuase most software is 'cloud based' the publisher now has a really, really, really easy way to turn off your access to the Corel cloud. Not world ending in the case of Corel.

If the puter is not connected to the Intenet..ever...the risk is greatly diminished.

I don't see why you can't as long as it is legal copy. Don't worry "Corel GRIM REAPER:D:D" will not come after you if you have legal copy. Of course Home or academic version has limited features to where you can't install commercial or free plugins that requires VBA, VSTA or MACRO Editor. What that mean is you can't automate some time consuming task. It does not mean just because you have low version that you can't do them manually. Some of the bells and whistles that you wish you had will not be available when you try to follow YOUTUBE video or written tutorials. It should be qualified for upgrade for Full Graphics Suite version as long as it is registered legal copy. Beware EBAY has lots of pirated copies.

If you are worried contact Corel support https://www.corel.com/en/support/?hptrack=mmsup. Also join Corel Community Forums and raise your concerns there. Or find answers. You have to register to join https://www.corel.com/en/communities/

Thanks, I might get the home student version directly from Corel and use it for now. My computer crashed so I will have to cough up some money for a new one and having to buy a commercial version of Corel will put me out of my budget right now.

You can also subscribe for Full Graphics Suite version until you can afford to upgrade. I did on a monthly basis while waiting for upgrade price became dirt cheap. It is immediately available after you downloaded it.

@amistad,

I forgot to mention if you are going to cut vinyl from CorelDRAW Home or student version and your cutter uses CorelDRAW plugin the plugin will not work because it uses VBA. At least with my Graphtec cutter the plugin is in VBA.
I send convert it to an EPS file and work off of that with the vinyl cutter program.

Okay, I got the home student edition in CorelDraw X8. Only problem now is that my new computer does not have the program to separate the colors when sending the print job to the epson 1430 printer. The old computer has the program in there and nobody can open it. Which program do you guys recommend for color separations for my Epson 1430. I know nothing about this.

You can use CorelDRAW to do separation and print the files with Ghostscript but since you have Home Student version it will not work according to the OP in this thread because initially he had Home version: http://www.t-shirtforums.com/screen-printing/t844418.html. He had to buy the Graphics Suite version.

I don't know exactly why it does not work because according the comparison in this link the version supports Ghostscript.

The X5 I used to have was the student version and I was able to separate colors. I just dont know why it does not work with X8.

Read the thread I posted above. I detailed out on how to do separation. I also posted a link to pdf file of the procedure. Open the printer dialog box look for Separation tab. If you find it go from there and do the separation. The OP said he was not able to find it in his X8 Home version.

I thought there was software for the epson 1430 that could make the printer separate colors. With my X5 I could even place registration marks and they would print on all the colors. I never used ghost script.

Ghostscript allows you to print postscript data to non postscript printer. It tricks a non postscript printer to print postsrcipt image.

You can do all the separation process including registration marks under Prepress tab and other parameters in the Separation tab etc. in CorelDRAW printer dialog box. You can print the separation directly to your printer but it will not be postscript. I don't know if 1430 is postscript printer.

CorelDRAW is guaranteed for 30 days after purchase. Or you can download the trial version of Graphics Suite Full version to see if that solves your problem.

The printer dialog should look like the photo below. The tabs are highlighted with red oval. According to OP in http://www.t-shirtforums.com/screen-printing/t844418.html thread Home version do not have all the tabs.

The image below is the Home version according to the OP.

I tried to download this but I am doing something wrong. My X8 program still does not show the separations. I am doing something wrong.
Uninstall the Home version completely through Windows Control Panel Program Uninstall. Do not keep preferences. You may have to go to Programs or Programs (X86) and delete the CorelDRAW folder to completely wipe out any residual files after uninstalling CorelDRAW. Then install the trial version.

When I try to install the ghostscript as add printer it does not give me the option. I cannot find it so I can add it as a printer. I am doing something wrong in the download. If I get the trial version will I still have to download ghostscript? I am under the understanding that the full version comes with it. Is that correct?
