Ugh! So frustrated.
I signed up with Paypal and they hold 20% of all sales for 90 days. I don't like that so I started researching other merchants. I thought I found a good one with Flagship Merchant but after reading some reviews I'm not going with them.

who do you use and how has your experience been? Again, Paypal is out because they wish to hold 20%. (plus they seem to be higher than most)

Payanywhere.com best merchant card processor going! Money in 12 hours, they have mobile apps and iPhone and iPad apps works amazing. Super low fees
It looks like Payanywhere is a slider for iphones. I actually already have a square.. what I need is a merchant account provider for my website.

Personally, if I see it's a one-man operation, or an eBay seller, etsy, or just a little website of someone making handmade items, Paypal is fine. But if the company is trying to look big, professional, someone you want to make a long-standing corporate relationship with... Paypal makes you look like small fries.

If I'm going to buy some custom handmade mittens from Nana's Knits, Paypal would be perfectly acceptable if I were using it. If I'm looking for someone to continually produce t-shirts for my company (as well as signs, vehicle graphics, etc, if they offer it as a "full service print shop"), I'm not even going to look at Joe Schmoe who has a little Paypal account vs someone who has a full merchant services account as well as being willing to offer credit lines (with references, of course). What happens if you go out of business tomorrow? If you couldn't get a real merchant service account I worry about the professionalism. Where will my artwork go if you go under? If I'm buying to resell, I'm going to want someone who offers net payments, too.

If Paypal is going to hold 20% for 90 days it's because they might think you are a credit risk, therefore any other payment processor will do the same.

My current situation using Paypal (only) and my customers do not necc. know it's through PP. I have a paypal button and the ability to accept credit cards right on the check out page that is not associated with a PP button. The issue isn't me understanding the value of having an authorize.net account vs a PP account. The issue is PP wants to hold 20% for 90 days and I'm not cool with that. Then the issue became all the complaints I started reading about other merchant services and I don't want to go with someone who that has a bad rep which is why I asked my original question of "who do you recommend" .. I didn't ask why or why not I should go with PP vs another merchant. If PP wasn't holding my money for 90 days I would certainly stay with things the way they are.

So.. again, I pose the original question.. who do you use and/or recommend for acceptign Credit cards online?

Sorry, I'm not trying to hijack the thread, honestly. I thought the whole "hold for 90 days" rule was only if you weren't verified? I was initially limited to $500 transfers per month until I verified my bank info and PayPal said all holds were removed. Are you saying that's not the case?

There have been a lot of threads lately mentioning Paypal now holds 20-30% for 90 days. This policy actually started at the beginning of last year, I guess they're finally starting to constantly enforce it now.

My boss uses Square for his side business, so far he likes it.

Did Paypal give you a reason for holding back a %. I have used paypal, Authorize.net and other merchant services for years and none of them have ever held back a %. For some reason they must have a concern about charge backs, your return policy or something. How long have you been in business?
