What is the most important function to look for in a printer? I'm not talking about features like paper size or rather it prints on CD's or not but, I am talking about things like droplet size, resolution, nozzles, temperature - the things that affect quality. I know nothing about the things I've mentioned so please provide detailed answers. What's most important for each ink type, pigment ink, and sublimation ink.

I've purchased an Epson WF-7710 because it was on sale cheaper than it's printer only version but am second guessing my choice after reading about problems with Epson's OEM pigment inks. It is still in the box in case I change my mind.

On a slightly different topic - is there a difference in quality when doing heat transfers between Epson's Durabrite pigment ink and the UltraChrome HG2 pigment ink? I've read that having more colors doesn't make a difference but what about the quality of the inks - is there a difference when printing heat transfers?

I just bought the 7710 for doing transfers on my heatpress and for also printing my photography i do , I the reason i bought was for trasnfers but its so good i use it for everything else, But my buddy back in S.Carolina uses his for transfers only. The pigment ink in the these printers are amazing and good quality. Ive only done a couple transfer prints on jpss paper but i do have the 3G opaque for darks,

You can look up cobra ink online and they sell sub ink and eco- ink kits and conversions and also refill carts. My buddy swears by the refill carts which im about ready to buy .You bought a good printer, And im not sure where you bought it ( maybe a office depot or office max ) but you got the extra warranty on it for the cheap price. I do it on all my printers now, Huge savings on free replacement.

I dont regret buying it at all. Im not sure where you read the feedback but i stand behind the printer the same as my buddy does and everyone else who i know that has them for printing for Transfer work and photography..

There are very little printers out there that has TRUE ALL color pigment inks. Most only have PIGMENT ink on the blacks,But this does Have ALL PIGMENT COLORS just like the hp8630 printer( which i have as well ) . Got my Epson For free by using my warranty from my HP lol...

Any questions drop me a message ,Make sure your message box is empty so i can respond back.

Thanks for your answer. Are you using the OEM Durabrite inks for your heat transfers or did you switch to Cobra? I am leaning towards sticking with the Epson OAE Durabrite because I understand them to be all pigment and I want to avoid the issues people have with third-party inks - mainly what I am reading about the chips not resetting when you refill.

A bit off-topic but do you have experience with the newer UltraChrome HG2 pigment inks? If so, do you think they have a better quality and if so is it noticeable in heat transfer prints?

Im using up the OEM Durabrite ink carts. I bought 2 xtra sets when i got my printer .

As for the chip resetting issue. The carts ( If i remember correctly) have a special reset button on them,But dont quote me on that, I do know he has no issues with refilling them .Go to cobra ink and they explain as well about it i believe in the items they have. . But from what i seen ,No one has had a problem unless you get them from a off brand 3 party cartridge seller. or you use Sublimation inks. Thats why its best to get them from a legit company who knows their stuff.

I have not used the new ink called ultra chrome,
I looked up the ink and from what i seen , it is made for the larger format printers that use a more wide range of colors for ink cartridges like ( 9 Colors - Here is the link to epson

https://www.epson.eu/consumables/ultrachrome-hd-ink

, The 7710 uses 3 colors and a black,But i could be wrong, Here is another link from this forum on the subject

ultrachrome related topics at T-Shirt Forums

with people who have used it but they are using different a printers tho. So i dont know if the Ultrachrome is made for the 7710 or not . I guess i need to research more right now . I do know that when you print on transfers ,the clothing needs to wait 24 hours before washing ,Just like when i use my HTV vinyl on my shirts..
