Durabrite ink? That's pigment, and dyebased is recommended for film positives. You can get bulk aftermarket all-black (or you can get normal colors and just print in black, some people prefer using all black) dyebased inks for it.

You can use pigment ink with almost the same results as the stock dye ink. Yes the films won't be as dark but pigment ink has UV blockers and can have 100+ year fade resistance while dye inks about 30 years. Now as mention the bulk ink specifically designed for films have both the dark density of dye ink and the UV blocker of the pigment ink. I have a film that was printed with clear ink that will perform the same as any film ink. It was a salesmanship gimmick to sell there ink. They didn't sell clear ink it was just to prove the UV blockers used in their dye ink. Dark films are a indication that they will perform well but not always needed depending on ink.

Does anyone know if this printer works for printing on transparencies? I bought the printer thinking it would but after reading the Epson website it says that it's not able to. However I've seen other people use a Epson Workforce 1100 for printing transparencies and the Epson website also says that model cannot print on them. I've never printed on transparencies and am new to screen printing. I basically just wanted a wide-format printer for printing transparencies for under $200. What was good about the 7510 is that it's also a scanner and can use WiFi. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Inks are the same exact exact compostion for the 7510 and the WF1100, another poster has confirmed the WF1100. I don't do films, but if one works so should the other ...

The 7510 will print transparencies. If you are going to use solely for this purpose it is reccomended to get refillable cartridges and put dye ink and more specifically ink formulated for this purpose. The stock inks are pigment and although will work you can save yourself a lot of time and eliminate film problems.

Thanks for the response! Do I need to do anything special to allow the transparencies to go through? Also what transparencies would you recommend? I'm looking for around 50 or less large transparencies. Also which ink cartridge would you recommend?

No the 7510 should pick up the transparency and the paper sensor should pick up the film. Every now and then it will kick out the film. Fixxons films work great at a good price and I think they offer smaller packages but I only buy in large packs. You can use the OEM cartridges but best to buy a refillable and use blackmaxx ink or other specifically for films then you can print all black. Look up video on YouTube user sben7633. Will explain how to print all black or you can use same method with OEM color carts to print darker. If using the OEM with pigment you might also try using advanced settings and increase saturation in small increments. The film won't be as dark as dye ink but pigment ink has UV blockers which will make the work.

I've been considering purchasing one of these to do my film positives (beats $12 for an 11x17 transparency at the local blueprint shop), and I've read elsewhere on the forums that you have to load the transparencies in a certain way to ensure it feeds properly or so that the rollers don't smudge the ink that's laid down. Anyone care to elaborate?

I just used mine for the first time this week using the settings for the color black used to make the design that sben763 said to use if you are using the stock ink, 75c 75m 35 Y 100k, and it came out beautifully. I think i did notice tiny little track marks on some parts but they weren't enough to cause any problems, at least not with that particular design. I just fed a single sheet of 13x19 Fixxons Film through the front, print side down. Burned the screen in about 14 minutes using a 500W Photoflood lightbulb. I'm about to print another one later today of a design with finer details and lines. So we'll see how that goes. So far so good. The printer is nice and quiet, and the scanner does a nice job as well. Totally worth the money in my opinion.

http://www.t-shirtforums.com/printers-inks-inkjet-laser-transfers/t184615.html#post1221654 <------click here and use PHOTO setting or Best photo and premium photo matte or glossy. You may try both as one printers prints best one way while the same model a 2nd printer will print best with the other. if OEM carts use 75c 75m 35 Y 100k from the video.
@InnerLoop the little track marks are from the metal star outfeed rollers. After some printing it will lighten up or even stop. Even with halftones it doesnt affect the exposure for me.
