Can anyone suggest a website where I can build myself and sell through? I know nothing about and need help, especially with pricing charged for eCommerce, etc.

I did a website years ago that was complicated but worked thru it but was many moons ago when websites where just starting. I remember it not being user friendly and the expenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My sister is good with wordpress, etc.

THANKS!!

Melissa

i would recommend setting up a woocommerce site
free, easy to setup and start with and you can add spiciness as required

you will need to secure a website name
always try for a .com, even if you have to amend your business name
keep it less than 10 letters if possible or very memorable

for your webhost i would recommend namecheap (they can secure your name and host your site)
look for coupons online to save a little

if you want to test drive woocommerce install this on your computer
select local install on the right hand menu

I played around with multiple commerce sites for many years. I ended up with OpenCart as I really liked the back end to easily work things I needed. I won't lie, none of them are super easy, it takes some figuring out in the long run. But I found Open Cart along with a MegaShopping Cart Module to be an awesome fit for us. So much so we just paid a web designer to upgrade the site to the new OpenCart 3.0. In the testing phases now, but so far, I'm super excited.

I also think that Wordpress will be a good choice for you. It suggests all necessary features and it is possible to self-host your website. Also there are a lot of templates/themes, personally I can always find a suitable one. By the way, there is a big TemplateMonster sale on https://www.templatemonster.com/ and there is an opportunity to get a Wordpress theme at a reduced price there. Hope it helps!

The top ones that I would suggest looking into are:
- WooCommerce
- Shopify
- BigCommerce and
- OpenCart

Here is a great comparison breakdown on a site called Capterra. You can then do a deeper dive into each by looking at their individual profiles and review. I would then suggest bopping around in the free trials for the ones you think will fit best (or doing a demo if they don't have a free trial). If you do a demo take it with a grain of salt though and focus on if they have the features you want, not how easy it looks to use since everyone showing you the system is a pro and makes it look easy.

If you want more than just an e-commerce store and more flexibility then I would suggest looking at either:
- Wordpress or
- Squarespace

Most of the top selection for e-commerce solutions can connect with WordPress so if you decide you want to add on a blog or something in the future you can always add a WordPress account.

since your sister knows wordpress
I highly recommend using it with Woocommerce it's the cheapest solution
I'll send you a video explaining everything(everything) but in the end you gotta work a bit on your landing page because it's slow and ofc security.
good luck !
