ok so you've got to be more descriptive. i'm guessing you want ideas tossed around about what the design should look like etc.

what is a watergirl? will it have the football teams logo or mascot pictured in the design? are the shirts to be done in the same color scheme of the football team? what fonts do they use? etc.

Here is where clipart and creative art diverge. Any decent artist that doesn't rely on clipart or copying other people's design off the internet should be able to come up with a good design. So.... off the top of my head...

Retro grecian design, copper ink on dark shirts, use the greek goddess of water pouring from an urn, simple heavy lines like you'd see on ancient pottery, or...

Vertical design of medium thick lines (probably 15 wide) that part in the middle to form a silhouette of girl holding a pitcher of water, dark blue shirt with white and sky blue ink, or...

swirl of water that has the letters VIKINGS WATER GIRL (or whatever mascot name) embedded into it...

Just a few ideas while eat my dinner.

A watergirl is basically someone who stands on the sidelines and takes water to the players during time outs.

Since I am obviously NOT a decent artist I appreciate the help. It was my understanding this board was for helping one another and not being rude about it.

I am humbled to be in the presence of an expert that has ideas flowing out while they enjoy dinner. Since I am new I am learning and appreciate help I do receive here and hope I never get so good I have to make someone else feel bad for asking a question.

Maybe a water bottle with the teams name and mascot on it. A water bottle wouldn't be to hard to draw or maybe find already vectored. A water cup might even work or maybe an igloo cooler type design.

Mike

Another thought would be to find a water bottle or draw one then fit the "water girl" text into the bottle with the schools mascot to the side.

Sorry, been cranking all week. I just get frustrated at seeing the reliance so many people have in expecting to find exactly what they need already done one the internet, and when they don't they will burn up hours searching and piecing togther artwork... when they could have done it from scratch in 30 minutes.

Give me some credit in my rudeness, I did share some actual ideas and not just URL's to go and look for finished artwork. And, here is a retro style mockup I did based on what I said earlier, 3 color, all vector in Illustrator (this is just a jpeg sample of my original artwork).

rick: you really need to chill. first off there is a rule about file sharing on the forum. if everybody did or gave away free artwork how would we as graphic designers afford to live? cool you know what you're doing when it comes to digital computer graphics but does that mean you are here to do everybody's work for free? how about letting that person learn the #### on his/her own?

and as people coming on this forum looking for free blah blah blah...........they should know better.

Thanks Rick....I accept your explanation - I get cranky too.

And I actually got a couple of really nice emails from graphic designers that I am going to give my business to. I had no problem with paying for my design to be done...I was just asking for ideas. I wasn't looking for a "ready made" clip art for free...but pretty sure I won't ask again....dang!

Actually, I thought this forum for was for sharing ideas and when push-comes-shove perhaps helping out with artwork, hoping the favor will be returned later or maybe additional projects down the line... but as MikToxic pointed out (and I guess all the artists that emailed you) all projects and ideas are for pay only. Sad really.

She hadn't contracted anyone yet so I guess I didn't rob anyone of a job.... and my artwork idea crashed and burned... so no harm done I guess...

I could use some more work, but I don't know how to do that here in these forums, I guess I just suck. Maybe I'll get a job as a greeter at WalMart... I could welcome people with "Welcome to WalMart you losers"... God I am cranky...

That's funny coming from someone from "friendly" NY State and a town with the word FAIRY in it, a nickname with the word TOXIC in it, and an avatar that describes his tolerance for humor other than that the sort found in Harpers Weekly or Architectural Digest... ZERO. Lighten up, you'll still be able to make your Jaguar payment this month, no one robbed your piggy bank.

i'm funny as the next guy. that was supposed to be a back-hamded remark on my part about texas.

i know you were trying to help but there's got to be a limit. it's like we are all in the same union if you will.

there was a discussion on this forum last week where the original poster came on asking if someone had the file of a specific football or where she could find it. of course sides were taken from those of us telling the op to spend the $30 on the file that we had tracked down for her. no. too expensive. in the meantime 2 or three people drew it for her. so then it became a war of words between people like me who believe you should learn how to do your own work (if you are considering being a graphic artist) or pay for it if you don't. people of course got their feelings and egos hurt and it went on and on till Rodney, the forums owner (i think) came on and closed the thread with the WE DON'T ALLOW FILE SHARING ON THIS FORUM statement and a link to the rules stating just that:

http://www.t-shirtforums.com/forum-information/t93361.html#post547755

i guess you could private message the person and start a dialogue between you and a prospective client that way.

the forum from what i read in it's mission statement is to help people, not do free work for them or promote your own business or work. from what i've seen of your work, you shouldn't have any problems getting clients. it's just slow everywhere and the fact that people want to do everything themselves or get stuff for free (believe me i've lost alot of money over the years with the artwork and freebies i've given away) doesn't help.

All good points. I hadn't been on the forum in a few months and when I come back i read a lot of threads with advice of using autotracing or just buying artwork, so I agree that there is not enough fostering in the direction of teaching people to draw things for themselves...

so with that said, how can we encourage to draw for themselves? Perhaps we could make small starter files and distribute them.. i.e. an Illustrator file with a grayed out football in the background, and a partial path already started. Beginning vector users could download the file, finish the vector work, fill areas with spot colors, and have a working file. Compound paths, masks, and trapping could be taught along the way....?

Just a thought.

most of the responses i've read considering that are the"go buy a book", "read the manual" or "go take a class".

to tell you the truth i agree with all those and your point as well. i just don't know that this is the forum for that. if there was one setup for teaching graphics programs, i'd be down with that. you could probably get alot of top sponsors and advertisers to pull together their resources. BUT:

the fact is that there is so much info out there available on the internet now as to let's say when i started 20+ years ago, that if you can't accomplish learning the basics of a program through the manual, internet tutorials etc. then maybe they need to think of another profession.

I'm new to this site, but this sounds like my buddies bashing each other.

I do like that people are willing to help...Texas. I mean how many of our clients are trying to get free art work from us anyway. Although Toxic has a good point, it's never to late to learn something new, although I do like that the ideas were flowing, some people don't have that creative mind, they just need a jump start.

Look forward to hearing more from you guys.
Thanks
OTB Danny
