Hi there
Dose anyone have a recipe for water-based heat set clear ink base or paste as some call it.

We used to make this about 20 years ago ourselves but lost the recipe

Contained ( as far as I can remember and these are only guesses at the spelling )
Luktrex D7, Halizerian binder, water, white spirits etc

Hope someone can help as if I recall the initial set up was not cheap, but boy cost about 20% of what we pay now

Many thanks

Ross

Here is a baseline formula for waterbase base. Different manufacturers will use different names for the components.

70-85% Water
1-15% Binder
3-4% Concentrate
1-3% Auxiliaries

Making your own base does require a high speed mixer that can cut into the products and shear them together.

If you aren't happy with what you are paying, I would suggest shopping around.

Good luck,

No, by concentrate I meant the thickener for the paste. This formula will give you paste alone then you can add pigment to this paste.

For adding pigment, our rule of thumb is 2:1 or 2 parts binder to 1 part pigment. For a base with 15% binder, you would not want to add much more than 8% pigment.

Any further help would be great

Yes, a company like BASF has thousands of products for dozens of industries.

We do have the names of these products, but these are things we use to make our products. We do sell them under private label. I will PM you with some additional info.
