I have been in the trophy and awards business for over 10 years, and would like to expand into screen printing. My client base includes over 60 schools and on the face of it, the move seems logical. Good move? Yes or no? I would appreciate some advise.

Do you have the equipment? Do you have any experience in screenprinting? How much business do you think you can generate? Will you have much competition? These are just some of the questions you'll need to answer to decide it it's a good move. You can do a lot of work for schools if you are good enough for them to leave their current supplier.

Thank you for your input. The questions that you suggested are a few of the the ones that I have been asking. The cost to move to a larger location, remodeling that building, complete set up for screen printing, printing classes, computers and software, and more that I'm not taking into consideration will be about $280,000. With our current income, we can cash flow the payments on that amount, but just barely. I think we will be financially on a razors edge for the first year, but the long term potential benefits are could be good. Someone is doing the t-shirts for the local schools, so there is always competition. What can I do to separate my business from the crowd? Who are the most trusted suppliers of screen printing consumables and textiles? Who makes the most reliable and durable automatic presses? Where can I look for the answers to these and a hundred more questions? If you could head me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

S&S Activewear, Alphabroder, and SanMar are distributors that stock a really wide variety of items. I would go to a trade show to look at automatics or even consider a manual to get started to save some $$$$. You would want to look at tunnel dryers at the shows also. Depending on your location, you can take a screenprinting course from companies like Ryonet, M$R, and I think Anatol offers one. Some are even online or you can look at Youtube videos to get an idea. Use these forums to ask and search about equipment questions, there's lots of good input on here.
