Let me ask a question. I just had a customer that came in and wanted vinyl or screen printed t-shirts. She wanted a fitted ladies t-shirt, not just a ladies cut. Then she wanted a 14 x 3 design from the bottom hem up on the front. A 4 x 4 design on the back below the collar and a 2 x 4 design on the bottom back right by them hem. She said another shop had screwed up the order so she was looking for someone new. She also mentioned that they did not use the exact color that she wanted. She wants to do 15 regular mens t-shirts and 15 of the ladies fitted ones.

So... I can get the exact color by printing it on my versacamm, but she said that the shop she had gotten them done at and another that she had talked to would do this in the $10 to $10.40 range.

I'm just wondering, if anyone can tell me how they are doing this? I pulled a Hanes shirt that would cost $5. I'm guessing that I would have to use a couple of feet of versacamm mat at $4 / foot, so I'm already at $13 with no profit, shipping or labor built in. I thought maybe they could be using traditional vinyl and that would be cheaper, but she wouldn't get her exact color, but it still seems like that wouldn't work out for that price. I also considered screen printing, but it would be three screens with flashing so that also is a higher price.

Any ideas?

Customers do not always tell the whole story. They seem to forget that the other guy wanted a substantial fee for artwork, screens or setup.
Not enough info given to give you any specific ideas, what type of ladies shirt- long sleeve or short sleeve? Is it a white t shirt or colored? Could you use a ink jet transfer? Does it have to be a Hanes? Gildan for her t shirts seem to be a lot less.
And remember, she stated the other shop screwed up and she is now seeking your assistance.

She didn't specify the brand of shirt, but wants a ladies fitted black t-shirt. She just looked at the SanMar catalog and said.. something like this and pointed the Hanes S22C. She didn't like the PC61L. It wasn't fitted enough. She is looking for short sleeve. She showed me a sample done on a Wal-Mart shirt she had taken in and it looked like vinyl or versacamm. She said that was just a sample though, the price she was given was all inclusive.

How did the other shop screw-up? Ask her to show you the bill or quote from the other shop. It would not be the first time that I had to walk away from an order because of price. Give her your best price and see what happens. JMHO.

Its sounds like she's not telling the whole story. Plus she sounds like a pain in the *** customer to me. I would push the price up to get rid of her and if she does accept at least you've made a decent profit.

Cheers

The least expensive route would be heat applied vinyl or Inkjet paper. There are some Inkjet papers that become one with the fabric and have nice colors, but there is also allot of poor quality out there, so make sure you try samples before buying.

women's fitted shirts are always a pita so unless you are experienced in I would move on and explain that you are unable to meet your price.

If she suggests that she gets the shirts same story don't charge any less. If you do not place the image correctly (women have breasts :) you are gonna have problems.

practice on some women's fitted shirts first find some test subjects and make notes because women will freak out if the image isn't where they want it and you have that bad publicity following you.

I'd ask for a like for like quotation from the other company. Customers will always play retailers off with each other creating price wars which are often unrealistic. They try their luck.

Sometimes, it's better to let the job go than to compromise ur prices.
