They make frosted vinyl material, its not cheap and yes it can be cut.
Vinyl effect sandblasting - what exactly is it and how is it done?
I had a question today from a friend who is an interior designer. On 1 of her projects she is having a glass balistrade for a staircase and she wants to keep costs down, the question was if I could create a glass sandblast/etched effect?
So, my question to you guys is... how can I do this? By this I mean the etched detailing and frosted effect.

As we're considering get a plotter cutter in the next few weeks, is this something we can do on the machine? It'll either be GX-24 or CE5000-60.

few ways you can do it. cut a stencil out of sandblast resist and actually blast it, cut a stencil and use an etch gel type solution, or get etch look film, which most manufacturers make in a variety of opacities and colors. the film is obviously the least intensive.
Hmmm the etch look film seems easiest option, I saw the cream being used on utube but given the amount of glass we would need to cover its not feasable.
Do you know where in UK I can find this material or even an example of it and I can track it down.
Am I right in thinking the process would be same as sign vinyl?
Cut, weed, mask and apply?

the first is sandblast resist, its applied to the surface which is then sandblasted. the area the film was applied when removed will be clear. the second is probably what you want to use. unfortunately i am not too familiar with uk companies, but i believe hexis has a uk operation and they produce a good quality film.

I am in the Uk and was a 3M Premier Signwriter.
The Best Material For Glass Etch Is always 3m
I Always Use It On Manifestations on glass and I used it on Donald Trumps Princess Super Yacht When it was sold to an Arab Prince and changed To Kingdom 5KR.
So It is good and It Lasts the Longest but Is expensive
You can also get other colour frosted etch like pink etc.
Its Best To Apply on Large Surfaces with plenty of water Using A large Garden Sprayer Container a little washing up liqiud and Use A large Handle Squeegee.(Same as Window Tinters Use)
Other UK Companies Such as Allprint Supplies in Slough Are Very Good.

I have a vinyl cutter capable of cutting sandblast material, where can I buy it and what type material do you recomend, I want to sandblast names in tile like you purchase at a lowes, or home depot with a home sandblasting kit, its new to me thanks,,, Tony
Hartco makes the sandblast resist I use. Hartco 425. I origonaly bought it for sandblasting images into signs but it also works quite well as a rhinestone templlate material.
I think that all the major manufacturers of vinyl have an etched glass material. Arlon, oracal, and 3M. I have used the oracal and Arlon products in the past with great results. Easy to cut weed and apply.
