Hey guys just curious how most of you price vinyl stickers with the vinyl waste.

For example if I have a 15" wide roll of vinyl. The sticker design comes to 10" by 36". Do you guys charge them for basically 15" by 36" sticker to take into account the wasted vinyl, or do I just eat that cost?

I do unless there's no hurry and I have time to gang up other stuff.

If you can cut something out of the 5x36 piece leftover you have 0 cost in it. If you never have a use for it, you are not throwing money away when it's cleanup time.

Sometimes I will cut some of my logos or something that sells along with whatever I'm cutting if I have that much dead space. It's dependent on the color/material being cut whether I do or not.

I find that I rarely cut from scrap even though I can load pretty small bits in my cutter.

Yea I figured I could keep them and try and use them later, just curious if most people charge it to the original customer...

Where do you draw the line on charging for the whole width? Say a 3" by 36" design or a 6" by 36" design out of a 15" roll?

Price it by the amount that comes off the roll and you'll never have to worry. If you can gang jobs together then you're coming out ahead! All those little scraps that you're "gonna use one day" will probably sit around the shop for a few years until you throw them out.

I factor in the cost of the waste material as well as the cost of the transfer tape. On smaller jobs if there is enough waste I'll cut an extra just have in case something happens in weeding or application, or sometimes just give it to the customer just to be nice (unless the customer is a jerk).

We look at the linear feet used out price based on value and volume. We don't use a multiple of material cost.
